im sorry but dex saying “i killed wonderboy” in neverseen when fitz got impaled always reminds me of how weird the nickname culture is in this book.

I hate how nobody talks about the scene where Fitz, secretly, admits to Sophie he attempted to kill Alvar. The way he explained the story of watching the pod his brother was trapped in, filling up with fluid, after he was pressing random buttons. Then building up the realization and suppressed emotion towards Alvar by stopping. In my head I can imagine Alvar screaming for them to help him which leads to Fitz to slowly stop pressing buttons until he stops completely, replaying how many times they screamed and cried for Neverseen to not hurt them, only to not listen. It’s beautifully realistic to how people would react in that situation and it only adds because by technically thinking Fitz wouldn’t be seen as the one to kill him. It would have been the liquid. He didn’t know what he was pressing nor would he have known what to press to release him. He let nature run its course until the chaos stopped.

My favorite part of this is expressing this to Sophie, thinking she would think he’s a murderer, but only for her to be quiet and understanding. It makes me think how many times she wanted to harm Neverseen in ways that aren’t written cuz it’s a children’s book. Or seeing what she would do if pushed into that situation like Fitz. Deep down she knows that she would have done the same thing, whether subconsciously or consciously.
