Tawny Man and Farseer Trilogy Spoilers!!
There is something so special about both Dutiful and Nettle taking comfort in their dreams by just watching Fitz living. Nothing adventurous, nothing too exciting. It's just Fitz and Nighteyes taking comfort in each other as they live day by day. Nettle literally seeing then as one, Dutiful describing those dreams as a comforting part of his childhood and an escape from reality.
I just love the idea of dreams being a form of intimacy and vulnerability for Fitz, yet the fact they are dreams already implies a sort of boundary and repression on his part. He can love, and be loved freely in dreams, and yet they are constantly being invaded by things he wants to ignore (Like the Red Ship Raiders or Nettle quite literally going into his dreams, or a vague memory of his mother popping while in one). They all come up when his guard is down.
And honestly, I feel like (in my opinion) that's partly the reason there was so much tension between him and Dutiful. Fitz remarks time and time again om how obvious Dutiful's loneliness is, to the point that he somehow managed to connect to Fitz's life through the Skill from his dreams.
And to Fitz, who as a kid, had to guard and repress even his dreams for connection, who was quite literally beaten into putting up his walls, it must've felt like Dutiful was holding up a mirror to a boy just as lonely as he was. A boy just as obvious and vulnerable about it.
Those self-esteem and projection issues kicked in fast, and if I was an animator, I would've drawn them to the "You are Glass" song by Oliver Richman and Kaden Mckay.
