Deep spiritual jazz recorded in Germany, performed by Jamaican born saxophone player Fitz Gore and his international group The Talismen, featuring a.o. bassist Gérard Ebbo from Morocco and drummer Philippe Zobda-Quitman from Martinique. This is the first reissue of their second album, released in 1976 by a small private label, including “Delilah” and “Requiem For Julian Cannonball Adderley”. The rare LP comes in a newly mastered version with original cover design and sleeve notes. Fitz Gore`s music is full of tremendous tension and movement between deep seriousness, inwardness and humility; it affects your life, it liberates and heals.

JFJ Bingo #2: Brotherhood (Fitzjames & Gore)

He feels Graham’s presence, but doesn’t react. He’s too tired. Too weary. The wardroom isn’t the best place to let his weakness show, but the hour is late, and after calculating how likely it was to be disturbed, James decided to take the risk. He listens as Graham moves around the room, his gaze fixed on the wood before him, and the way the grain shifts in the lamplight.

A hand rests against his shoulder, a glass appearing in his line of vision. “Here,” Graham says, his tone as rich and inviting as the amber liquid he’s offering.

James accepts it, letting out a sigh he didn’t mean to and the taking a careful measure of the drink. “Thank—” he starts.

Graham’s hand closes over his, squeezing. His skin is warm against James’s, the touch reassuring. “No need to thank me.”

James lets go of the words, understanding. Another sigh escapes him, softer this time, as Graham’s presence warms him more than anything else ever could. Graham sits back in the chair he’s chosen next to James, saying nothing more, and not needing to. They’re more than companions, James realises with relief. The long, hard months, the comfort they find around each other, the falling away of polite expectation…

No, they’re more than companions now. They’re brothers.
