A Guide to Pride and Prejudice Adaptations
If you want to watch one but aren’t necessarily sure which one- here’s the post for you.
Accurate Pride and Prejudice. This one is most accurate to the book and uses mostly direct dialogue from the book. It’s my personal favorite and very good :) It’s a BBC mini series rather than singular movie so it is longer, but also sepereated into chunks and more detailed. It really shows just how much tension was between them in every sense of the word.It also shows Wickam and Lydia in hiding which I haven’t seen in any other adaptations.
Hallmark Pride and Prejudice. Probably the one you’ve seen gif sets of. This version is more hopelessly romantic than the others. Lizzy is more flirtacious and “silly” rather than sharp and witty. But it shows the Darcy and Bingley Bromance well, which I appreciate. It reads like a 2000s romantic period piece which is exactly what it is. The cinematography is beautiful.
Modern Pride and Prejudice. This one is a YouTube series with 100 5 minute episodes. It does a really good job of modernizing the situations and social commentary of the novel. I also really appreciate how they handle Lydia’s storyline (no spoilers (:) There’s also some additional videos by “Pemberly Digital” where we can see from Darcy’s point of view tracking down Wickam and Georgianna after the events of the novel.
Wattpad Pride and Prejudice. Ok I’ll admit it. I’ve never seen it. I know there are serious fans of this adaptation but basically: it’s pride and prejudice with zombie hunters and even more sexual tension. 🤷🏻♀️
