Superhero
Inspired by the song Superhero by Simon Curtis, requested by @talvin-muircastle. Happy Birthday!!!

“We can change the world!” Gina screamed into the battered crowd. “We can and will, if all of us stand together we can win.” The public looked up at the woman who stood atop a pile of debris, her hands holding up one leg. “Come on! Get up. Look alive, believe you can stand and let’s do this.” She half-turned towards the tank-like machine that was blowing things up, and attempted to glare it into submission.
Slowly, a few of the less injured civilians stood up, one of them let out a war cry.
“Hands up if you’re ready for the fight!”
Several others joined in.
“Fight until we’re winning!”
As the thing continued to blast the town, the citizens grabbed their metaphorical pitchforks and rallied up their blood lust. More and more continued to stand, pushing their pain behind them, fueled by the legendary mob mentality.
“Let’s be superheroes!”
The air was charged with anger, the invaders inside the machine stilled when they heard the mob scream at them. They turned back and began to blast them with their laser, but there were so many people that it made little change.
“Anybody can be a superhero!”
They thought that they were safe inside their metal walls.
They were wrong.
“Mission’s on lock, let’s do this!”
The woman called out orders and soon people had separated: some began bashing at the metal, while others seemed to disappear. They looked around, unconcerned with the brutes that attacked the outside.
They panicked when the invaders realized that some of the crowd had managed to infiltrate their machine. The small group of infiltrators began to take out the invaders and take over their computers. The invaders were unprepared to fight without help from their machine and swiftly dealt with. The infiltrators were quickly in total control of the machine and began to tear it apart.
Gina limped her way up and crouched in front of the invaders. She began to interrogate them, one-by-one. When she came across the leader, he had asked her one simple question. “How did you manage to amass an army and an effective strategy so quickly?”
The answer had left him reeling. “Oh, that was easy once they were riled up. You see anybody can be a hero if they put their mind to it. Once a few people decided they could be heroes, the rest quickly followed. It’s called ‘mob mentality’ and humans seem to excel at it.” She grinned as she pulled away.
