there have been a few really interesting posts going about kaz not dying an honorable death and like, im not sure i agree with that? b/c, like, we don't really know how kaz dies. (yeah, ik the novelization gives an explanation, but i dont consider it canon tbh? to me it doesn't fit with the ocelot stuff from mgsv)
but i think us Not Knowing actually points to, imo, the biggest tragedy of his death: insignificance
because miller is a goddamn side character in mgs1, and he dies like one. he dies off-screen, unseen, overshadowed by liquid's ruse, and unmourned in the chaos of shadow moses.
he has the fascinating tragedy of dying as a side character, and then being given huge narrative presence in the prequels. it means that none of the influence he spent decades earning could ever have been present in his death.
its even worse, then, that so much of miller's story is about his own struggle for self-determination, power, and freedom. b/c even when we see him succeed, the writers and the audience both that one day, he will die alone in that cabin. and no one will mourn him, not even the game itself.
happy 202-five 🥳🥂 (sorry i think i’m hilarious)
as it is new year’s day, it only felt fitting to write a little snippet of glitter on the floor max and daniel celebrating new year’s alone—or so they thought. (1.2k, G)
The Designated Alternate Universe Driver (DAUD)
“Are you positive? Like have you done a DNA test or something?” Daniel grips Max’s arm before he opens the door. He’d spent the majority of the flight from Monaco to England zoning out, and he doesn’t even have time to unpack the fact he’s standing inside the Red Bull factory again—not when there’s a bigger thing behind that door. “Daniel.” Max releases the door handle and places his other hand on top of Daniel’s. “I am sure. You know that the DAUD’s cannot lie about this type of thing.” Daniel doesn't pass out when he finds out who the 2025 DAUD is. Benjamin wishes he did. There was a whole bet going.
chapter 1 /
written for @thankyoudanielfest !
under the whispering door by TJ Klune given the maxiel treatment—but i only read the blurb, the top goodreads reviews and the free kindle sample because i haven’t decided if i want to pay $10 to read the book yet
“Ah.” Daniel brings the tea up to his lips, aggressively huffing out short and sharp breaths. The steam bends in Max’s direction, like the chicanes on circuits he’s driven on throughout his whole life. Or well. The chicanes he used to drive on.

callanmerritt Excited to get started next year 💚
Callan Merrit makes an unexpected move from RB to Mercedes, shocking everyone up and down the paddock—including ex-teammate Matthew Evans-Campbell. Everything is fine. They're very normal about it.
(Daniel and Max would beg to differ, but what do they know?)

Matthew talks to a sheep, Callan talks about rocks, Matteo brings wisdom, Max brings breakfast and Daniel has a high stakes coffee.

The Designated Alternate Universe Driver (DAUD) - Chapter 2: Error 410
It’s so easy, the way their bodies make room for each other, trained into it after a near decade of being in each other’s company. In another universe, he's sure it would be enough. But Daniel's far too stubborn to accept it in this one.
