The Swedish skier took gold in the women's 50km!! Big upset since it's not Norway!!
But also!! She's the skier who fell in the relay and cost Sweden the medal, so this is Redemption time for her, and her first individual gold to boot!! Congrats Sweden 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
"A reminder that nothing is certain in sports"
Yeah! It sure is!! The thing I love most about sports is you never truly know the outcome until you actually play the game, and when you're the underdog that's to your advantage, but when you're the favorite....
I'm thinking back to Nathan Chen's first Olympics and how he flubbed it Massively. You can go deep into my fiveblogs tag for the live reaction to it, but basically he made many mistakes all the way up until his individual free skate, where he finally became comfortable and pulled out a very good performance. Then he came back four years later and crushed it.
Thing with Ilia tho while he was shaky in the team short, he was excellent in the team free and in his individual short. The pressure just became Too Much right there at the end, and he tripped at the finish line, so to say
I feel bad for him — he was under a lot of pressure as the US favorite — but I do hope he can take this experience and come back stronger in 4 years
Until then, congrats Mikhail and Kazakhstan's first figure skating medal!!
Oh boy! I finally have off from work in the evening and can watched the prime time Olympic coverage! I sure hope there aren't any major upsets in men's figure skating :)
The classic showdown: USA vs Canada for women's ice hockey gold
The US already played Canada in the group stage and won 5-0, but this means noting. This is a new game this is for all the marbles. This is for Gold
Okay the polish skater for the team even just did a cartwheel are you allowed to do that???
Hillary Knight's fiancée is in the 1500m speed skating races!! Gonna have to cheer her on so they can have matching golds
At women's moguls now and!!!! A French skier and a USA skier. The USA skier falls bad. Impossible to come back from. BUT!!! The French skier went out of bounds so she ended up winning regardless and is on to the gold medal round.
