Hey @staff why are you returning an Http 403 status when people try to access certain videos? Like, I could understand it if you were deleting the posts outright, it’d be kind of weird, but posts get flagged and deleted all the time for seemingly arbitrary reasons.
But this doesn’t follow the same sort of pattern -- these videos are still there, and have valid URLs, but actually accessing the media load is now forbidden.
What’s strange is that some of the people whose videos are being forbidden - not deleted, just inaccessible - have received e-mails as though the post was flagged/reported for content.

But the videos don’t display a “this video removed for violating tumblr’s community guidelines”, nor are they actually deleted - they still have a valid URL, but access is forbidden.
I guess I just want to know why this is happening. I don’t know that it’s intentional, but there hasn’t been any official word on the issue, so the post with the email is really all i’ve got to go off of.
This isn’t an isolated event, either -
all of the black videos are reblogged, and a great deal of them are simply broken, all returning the same 403.

I checked to make sure it wasn’t just me - everyone I’ve checked with has also lost access to these videos.
If you’re reading this right now, I’d suggest going through your own archives and checking the videos.
Meanwhile, content creators, I would suggest uploading to youtube and then choosing “upload from web” on tumblr.
If I’m misunderstanding the ways in which tumblr deletes video, I’m open to correction!
