Demolitoin Lovers Au
Pairing: Chloah
Rating: M (because guns and death and zombies)
Summary: It’s a zombie apocalypse and all Hannah and Chloe have right now are each other, but they’re running out of bullets and time being together forever isn’t as far away as they thought it’d be.
Disclaimer: I own nothing
If Chloe’s being honest with herself, she’s not really sure how it got to this point. Holed up on the second story an apartment building, ankle deep in bullet casings with Hannah by her side fighting off the undead.
It’s like something out of a horror movie.
Hannah’s got her makeshift sniper rifle lined up to take shots at the haphazardly placed coffee can explosives. She uses the bullets carefully. She’s laying down on the porch staring through her scope and holding her breath every time she shoots.
It wasn’t always like this, Chloe thinks. There used to be more of us.
Hannah pulls the trigger and another explosion lights the block orange. A few zombies that survived the fire wander around burning until the heat destroys their nerves endings and leave them immobile until they’re chewed up by the flames.
Six in the squad.
Sarah was the first to go. Never one for killing, she was on lookout. Keeping watch through the night with her night vision binocular hybrid. When she saw the signs for a group of infected approaching, she sounded the alarm. Waking everyone up to grab weapons and get ready to run. Perfect form.
Things were going alright, Mary had taken to cutting open infected with a sword as Gemma stood a few paces behind them shooting at stragglers with bow and arrow. Isabel was wielding some sort of machine gun that probably should not have gotten into their hands but did. (Seriously, they had never passed a military base where did they get it from? Unless they took it from that one abandoned gun shop) Chloe and Hannah were back to back (shoulder? Because height difference) catching undead with bullets to slow down more.
But Sarah still had to get down from her ‘watch tower’ and there were undead approaching. Sarah got down from her perch and started making her way towards them when a group of zombies stumbled out an alley, cutting off her escape, sights set on her.
Gemma was next, she hesitated in sprinting to Sarah only long enough to make sure Chloe and Hannah could cover each other and Mary wasn’t in immediate danger of getting killed or hurt and Isabel hadn’t been forced to reload or give ground. She shot off arrows until her quiver was empty, then pulled twin revolvers and waded through corpses to get to Sarah, but infected were still coming through the alley and she was running out of bullets.
Isabel paused in her shooting once she heard the time between each shot getting larger and ran to Chloe and Hannah.
“We have to go!”
“We can’t just leave them!” Chloe stopped pressing the trigger long enough to turn to the teen running towards them “C’mon Mary! Tell Isabel that we can still save them!”
Mary stopped to catch their breath.
“Mary please!”
They looked up and shook their head.
“Chloe, Isabel’s right. We can’t save them, we have to go. There’s still time to leave and get to better ground if we go now.”
“But-”
Bang
Mary flinched as a scream pierced the air, followed by a ‘get away from her’ but they don’t know who said it, and two more gunshots. They grabbed Chloe’s arm.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t stay here…”
Isabel and Mary grabbed Hannah and Chloe and ran when the gunshots from the alley stopped. Isabel pulling Hannah along driven by adrenaline and rage. Mary dragging Chloe by the wrist to an apartment building that they had scoped out and set up in case something like this had happened.
It was built out of brick, the kind that was laid by hand and made to last centuries. They had spent hours boarding up all of the windows on the first floor and setting traps on the entrances. Going so far as to blow all stairs leading up except for one to make defense easier. About a half block away was a gas transport truck still a fourth full that they had agreed would be used to blow up a horde if they could lure it there.
Chloe and Hannah stopped fighting to go back once they saw how close to the building they were and how far behind the alley was.
At once, all four teens started setting up the coffee can clad bombs up around the perimeter of the building. Isabel and Mary seemed to be looking at each other and whispering a lot.
“Hannah?”
“Hmm?”
“What do you think they’re talking about?”
“I have no idea.”
“Dad friend stuff?”
“Probably.”
Mary was the third.
When all the cans were in place and safe-ish distances from each other, they started running back to the door, Mary cutting down stragglers in the path that Isabel mowed down. The four looked back to see the mass of zombies that had approached the block, coming from all directions, attracted by the sound of gunfire. Hannah was the first to react.
“Oh my god.”
“Shit.”
“God fucking damnit.”
“Fucking hell, watch your god damn language Mary. God...”
“Up the shut fuck Chloe, if I want to say god fucking dammit because a horde of infected are approaching us, I will say god fucking damn it as much as I want to.”
Hannah and Isabel were already getting the barricades for the door and looked at the two arguing with attempted annoyance and a handful of anxiety. Isabel speaks first.
“As much as I hate to break up this lovers spat, could you two please get the fuck out of the way so that we can barricade the god damn door?”
“Oh yeah sorr-MARY WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!”
Mary was five feet closer to the horde (a rather short distance) than when Chloe looked at them last. They ignored her and looked at the approaching horde with crossed arms. Stared at the undead then sighed. They turned around and smiled.
“Hey Isabel, take care of ‘em for me okay?”
Isabel nodded.
What are you talking about?
Hannah figured it out first. Tried to move forward to pull them inside the building, but Isabel blocked her path.
“You can’t do that!”
It clicked.
“MARY THAT IS A STUPID IDEA AND I FORBID YOU FROM DOING IT!”
Mary just shook their head and patted Chloe on the shoulder.
“Nope, it’s damn good and it could make sure that you get out of this alive. Also I’m sorry about this.”
“About wha- oof.”
Chloe landed on her back inside the apartment and coughed. She looked up to see Mary putting her foot down. Then they closed the door.
Isabel started barricading because somewhere on the other side Mary was swinging their blade to buy them time. Chloe snapped out of her shock long enough to choke out a question.
“Why?”
“It’s a dad friend thing. Now help me block this door. Mary didn’t do that just so we could sit around.”
Hannah sprung up and grabbed another board.
“You’re right, let’s do this and then go upstairs. If we’re fast enough maybe we can get to a place where we can watch out for them. Right?”
Chloe blinked and nodded.
“Uh, right. Good plan. Yeah.”
Mary shouted something that sounded like a suggestion of where the zombies should put their hands if they didn’t want to get ‘decapitated’. The three finished boarding the door and climbed up the portion of stairs that served as a path between the first and second floors. Chloe kicked down a door to their planned and stocked apartment that she believed (hoped) was facing the direction that Mary was. Hannah and Isabel brought in the other two boxes of assorted bullets from the other apartments. Isabel stayed to reload her gun then ran back to guard the stair case.
She threw open the screen door and jumped half onto the balcony railing, scanned the ground for blue hair or their jacket or something that showed that Mary wasn’t dead. She found all three on top of the fuel truck and then some.
“come and get some you fuckers!”
Mary’s voice carried across the block and okay yeah, that was a little better than anything Chloe had thought would happen. She leans a little closer to see just what the fuck Mary is up to before she does anything.
And so far Mary’s doing nothing but yelling.
They’re shouting insults, but once they had exhausted their supply, they started screaming song lyrics.
Hannah appeared by Chloe’s side with her makeshift sniper rifle.
“Not trying to be rude or anything, but what are they doing?”
Chloe blinks.
“I honestly have no idea what they’re doing. I mean they’re attracting the majority of the horde with all that screaming, but I- wait shit. They’re getting all that attention. They fuck. God damn it Mary. They’re gonna blow themselves up!”
Hannah got down and aimed for one of the infected that was near the front. Thought process being that maybe it would trip up some more and then Mary could escape and they could blow it up and no one else had to die to protect them.
“HANNAH DON’T YOU PULL THE TRIGGER I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DO I WILL THROW THIS SWORD AT YOU SO HELP ME GOD!”
Hannah froze, while Chloe cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted.
“Mary What Are You Doing?!”
“BUYING YOU TIME AND SAVING RESOURCES.”
The street was packed with undead and infected, some wandered aimlessly, but most stumbled towards Mary’s shouting. Groaning and howling for death and blood.
“Now Is A Poor Time To Be Throwing Shade Mary!”
“YEAH YEAH I KNOW SORRY, I JUST REALLY NEED AS MANY TO COME TO ME AS POSSIBLE BEFORE I BLOW THIS THING UP.”
Apparently the crowd wasn’t getting as close as Mary wanted it to, because they drew a flare gun and fired off three shots in a tight triangle. Undead poured into the streets and they let out a cheer before climbing on top of the tank and removed the cap from the top of the fuel truck.
“MARY-”
“HEY CHLOE, HANNAH! GUESS WHAT MY DAD ALWAYS TOLD ME?”
“What?!”
They leveled the flare gun at the opening.
“TO ALWAYS GO OUT WITH A-“
Pulled the trigger.
BOOM
Isabel was the last.
The explosion may as well have vaporized everything within twenty feet of the truck and sent off a shock wave that knocked both teens off their feet. Chloe didn’t want to think about what happened to Mary. Isabel shouted something, but there was a ringing in her ears that made it hard to pick out. Hannah managed to stand up first and stumbled out of the apartment to find Isabel.
“SHIT!”
Chloe dragged herself off the ground and stumbled after Hannah, dazed and unsteady as she navigated the hallways to the staircase where Isabel was supposed to be standing guard. Isabel was bleeding from somewhere in their hair. Hannah pressed a wash cloth to the place she thought the bleeding was coming from.
“C’mon Isabel wake up! Shit you gotta wake up!”
She pressed hard with one hand, shook Isabel with other.
“WAKE UP!”
Chloe stumbled and fell to her knees.
“This is not happening, this is absolutely not happening.”
“What’s – ahem, sorry – what’s not happening?”
“Isabel!”
“Isabel!”
The blonde coughed a few more times. Tried to sit up but couldn’t and when they looked down, they saw the reason why. A piece of shrapnel was sticking out of her stomach. Her shirt was red with blood and the crimson kept on spreading.
“That’s… not, good.”
“What’s not-oh.”
Isabel laid her head back against the wall.
“I should’ve listened when Mary said that I would need to get to farther away to stay out of the blast radius. Really didn’t think that the explosion would bust through the walls hard enough to send shrapnel.”
They opened their eyes.
“Since chances are that I’m gonna bleed out either externally or internally, Imma just go ahead and say that you two should probably hole up in an apartment, preferably one that we’ve already prepped and stay there until you get a chance to escape.”
Hannah scowled.
“Fuck no. We’re taking you with us!”
She looked down then stood up.
“After I find something to slow the bleeding! Or stop it. Hopefully stop it but slowing it is a good idea.”
Chloe pursed her lips.
“We could try cauterizing it… but you might go into shock and I don’t think that’d be a good idea…”
Isabel nodded their head.
“It’s a good idea, since you two stubborn fuckers aren’t gonna let me die in peace, then it’s a good idea that we have a back-up plan. And if I do go into shock, just try to keep me from doing anything that might kill me okay?”
“Obviously.”
But in the back of Chloe’s mind she already knew that they might not get a chance to start plan B or plan A, not with the way that Isabel was bleeding. Hannah came back with corn starch, a quarter of their bandages, a lighter, a small pan, some flammable materials that are questionably safe, and a piece of metal that’s thin and a little small, but long and capable of being a cauterizing tool.
Chloe started the fire and heated the metal. Worst came to worse they could try to stop the bleeding then move Isabel into the apartment they were in earlier.
Hannah stopped the external bleeding and started trying to find a way to get the starch on the inside of Isabel’s body where most of the bleeding was probably occurring, but had yet to make any progress.
“I think, I think that’s all I can do… Sorry…”
Isabel waved a hand.
“S’fine. Ya did your best for plan A, now it’s time for plan B.”
Hannah nodded and looked at Chloe. Chloe held up the glowing red metal.
“You ready?”
“Absolutely not, but let’s get it over with.”
“Okay.”
Chloe shifted the shrapnel a bit and pressed the metal to the freshly bleed area. Isabel made a sound between a choke and a scream.
“I’m sorry!”
And she was, but she couldn’t stop now. Couldn’t because it was making some progress and better than letting Isabel bleed out. Because it was a chance that they would live and they had to live, had to live because they’ve already lost half the group. Sarah’s gone and Gemma’s not here and Mary fucking blew themself up. And Isabel was still here if only barely because there was this chance, so she was gonna take it and do it whatever it took to keep them alive. Whatever it takes because she couldn’t lose anyone else.
She couldn’t.
Hannah wiped away sweat and tears and held Isabel’s hand while Chloe worked and she was almost done, thanking God or whatever was watching that the shrapnel was just a metal bar and not a piece of metal with jagged edges that could tear Isabel’s organs.
When Chloe finished the last bit of cauterizing, she carefully pulled the metal pole out and covered the hole with gauze and taped it so that nothing could get in and nothing could get out. Then threw away the trash and the shrapnel and dumped the ashes, carried everything back to the apartment, returned to bring the passed out Isabel back too.
They were halfway back to the apartment when they realized that Isabel felt a little cold, so they put them under blankets in one of the bedrooms. Then ran to the other apartments they stocked and brought everything back.
Brought everything back because it didn’t look like they were going to be leaving any time soon. Not with the way the fire burned through half the city. (They’re safe in the brick building though.) And certainly not with the slowly regrouping horde of undead that was wandering around the streets.
They bolted and blockaded the door then laid down in the bedroom across from Isabel’s with the doors open and napped. It was easy to fall asleep after what had happened. They didn’t have any energy left, and the little bit of sleep was supposed to help enough that maybe they could make a plan to get out of here. Even though plans were never really any of their things.
They woke up two hours later and Hannah went across the hall to check on Isabel. They’re awake, and while they couldn’t move, they were still hungry and thirsty, so Chloe grabbed a couple granola and a glass of water with one the straws that they found from a package in a convenience store.
Chloe broke up the granola bars gave them to Isabel in between sips of questionably sanitary water. Though she liked to think that it’s clean because she boiled it before letting to cool down to its current temperature. Hannah changed bandages and when all was said and done, the two sat back and tried to relax while Isabel let out a heavy exhale, then opened their eyes.
“So.
Chloe crossed and uncrossed her arms while Hannah picked at a fingernail, Chloe looked back up to answer Isabel’s prompt.
“So.”
“What’s gonna happen now? And don’t you dare say some shit like I don’t know or wait here until you get better because neither of those are options. We can’t afford to stay here. We don’t have the resources or the numbers it takes to hold down a fort of this size. We have to do something.”
Hannah frowned and let out a frustrated exhale. Opened her mouth.
“Actually, I think we can… and hear me out. You’re right Isabel, we don’t have the numbers to stay here until you get all the way better, but we can definitely stay here longer than what you were thinking. We have enough food that would have lasted the six of us a few weeks, a month max… but since it’s only the three of us now, and you probably shouldn’t eat food the way Chloe and I can, we have probably two, two and a half months’ worth of food.”
She cleared her throat and took a drink of water. Continued.
“As for the low numbers, Chloe and I can go break down the rest of the stairs completely, make sure there’s no getting in. We can stay here for a while until you heal enough that we can move again. And we can take shifts keeping watch. How does that sound?”
We never made it that far.
Isabel dropped their head on a pillow.
“I guess. Sounds fi-“
rustle
“…”
All three teens turned heads to look at the door. They screamed.
For one reason or another, there was an undead standing in the door frame, wandering unfocused eyes locked in their direction. It shuffled forwards.
Bang
A hole appeared in the center of its fore head and it fell backwards. Chloe and Hannah each reached for the knives they kept on them at all times, crept towards the doorway while Isabel laid guard from the bed.
Two more undead were in the hallway, but they locked onto Chloe and Hannah with scary efficiency. Neither get the chance to move though, not with the knives that wound up stuck in their chests.
The two teens make a dead sprint though the hallway into the living room to grab guns and opened fire on the half dozen in the room and the three more trying to get through the door. The first thing that they grabbed were hand guns, but they’re more than enough to take back their apartment.
“Shit! I though we locked the door!”
“We did! I don’t know how, but they broke down the door!”
“Well fuck.”
They slipped out the door back to back to clear out the hallways, and once that is done, they run back into the apartment to check on Isabel. Isabel who is coughing up blood and choking on the crimson. Hannah stayed to help Isabel breathe while Chloe started hauling bodies out of the room and throwing them over the balcony.
Something told her they would need the space. Hannah picked up Isabel’s machine gun upon entering the room and then proceeded to make hole in the floor big enough for a tiny little explosive, then dragged Chloe from the apartment as she set it off.
“Why did you blow a hole in the floor?”
Hannah gives a sheepish grin.
“Faster zombie disposal?”
Then shot at the undead stumbling through the door. As if to prove her point, Hannah pushed the nearest corpse into the hole and watched as it fell to the first floor and crushed three more undead.
“See? It works.”
“Never said it didn’t just wanted to know why ya did it.”
Chloe reloads for the zombie coming into the room.
“How’s Isabel?”
Hannah falters and Chloe picks up her gun again.
“Gone.”
Then it’s Chloe’s turn to falter and Hannah’s turn to start shooting.
“How?”
“There was more shrapnel. In her back, I think it pierced her lungs but tore when she shot the gun. You know they hates-hated ones with no recoil.”
That was three hours ago.
Now Chloe’s fingers have all gone numb from pulling the trigger and the hole that Hannah made for zombie disposal is unusable as anything other than a pit for undead to walk or fall into. Hannah’s a few feet behind her laying on the porch trying to slow the incoming undead with well-placed shots, but Chloe knows that they need to get out of here as soon as possible, because they’re running low on ammunition and they really can’t afford to hold this position much longer.
Unfortunately, there’s not really anywhere they can go, and there’s no easy way to leave, and she doesn’t really want to leave either. Not with Isabel- Isabel’s body, she corrects herself, in the room behind her and Sarah and Gemma’s remains somewhere in the streets and little bits of Mary that are probably littering the block.
Bang! BangBangBang!
Four more infected fall in a way that blocks the entrance and Chloe takes the opportunity to shake out her hand.
“Ahh shit… Hannah, how many are out there?!”
Boom!
“Well, not as much as before but still a lot. Maybe a few hundred?”
“…shit.”
“Yep.”
Chloe goes back to shooting zombies. There’s a pile around her feet of bullet casings that comes up past her ankles, and Hannah’s pile is around her shoulders. Though that’s different because she’s lying down, not standing up like Chloe is.
Click
Chloe stops pulling the trigger to look at the gun.
Clickclickclick
“God damn it!”
She tosses it to the side and picks up a shotgun. It clicks empty. She goes for the back-up pair of semi-automatic hand guns.
“Uh hey Hannah… we may have a problem..!”
“What’s that?”
“I’m using the back-ups!”
Boom!
“That’s not good!”
“I know, what do we do?”
“Chloe, please tell me you still have your knives!”
“Yeah, but how’s that supposed to help?”
“Trade with me! You shoot the cans, I stab the zombies.”
“How are you going to get close enough?”
“I’m gonna throw them!”
“How are you going to get them back?”
“I’m going to tie the ends together with string.”
“Is that going to work?”
“It works on TV.”
“Oh my god, okay, just try not to die okay?”
“Obviously.”
Chloe picks up the rifle and aims at a can that has about six re-animated corpses around it shoots at it.
Boom!
Hannah’s twirling four knives, two separate pairs connected by some sort of strong string that shimmers in the orange light. She looks dangerous but beautiful and makes the spinning knives look like a work of art or some kind of dance.
Chloe points at another can, this one a little closer to the building where more undead are and fires.
Boom!
Hannah slits the throat of one undead with one pair of blades then hurls the other at two zombies that are trudging through the door way, before retracting both and dropping them at her feet. She reaches down and picks up an AK-47 and lets loose on the mini horde stumbling through the door way. Bullet casings tinkling onto the already covered floor. The brass falls like raindrops and bullets rip through the air like hail.
Chloe steadies her breath and aims at another can.
They are running low and they need to move.
Boom!
Maybe if she can set off a few in quick succession it’ll buy them enough time to get away? She could take over the doorway and then Hannah could pack their bags with enough stuff to last them until the next town.
It’s worth a shot. Then swears for letting Mary get to her like that.
Then Hannah shrieks behind her and she turns around in time to shoot at the two zombies that have somehow gotten past Hannah’s hail of bullets.
Hannah’s fumbling for a reload as Chloe picks up the two semi-automatic hand guns. Lets as loose as is safe on the incoming horde. They don’t sputter empty.
Thank god.
But it’s only a matter of time before something else goes wrong and then she has to fumble for another save.
Hannah starts shooting again, but it’s slower and they’re running out of time, and bullets, and energy and how the unloving fuck are they supposed to get out of this?
“Chloe, I know what you’re thinking, but we’re not done yet.”
It’s a lie. I’m sorry I’m lying to you.
“How di-“
“I’m your girlfriend you gay dipshit, and we are not dying here. If we’re going to die, we’re going to do it together, somewhere that isn’t zombie infested, with infected waiting to eat our corpses.”
I wish I wasn’t
“And they say romance is dead.”
Hannah scoffs as she mows down another row of infected.
“You’re gay.”
“So are you.”
Hannah clears her throat.
“And for the record, I love you.”
“I know Hannah, I love you too.”
A. N. I have some alt scenes I wrote to counteract the angst. I’ll probably post those sometime during the next few weeks to keep this blog somewhat active.

Vampire Chloah AU (redone)
Vampire Chloah AU
I rewrote this cause I was bored and my computer is being shitty about letting me upload the Demolition Lovers fic.
Chloe sits on the ground; cold cement that would chill her to the bone if she wasn’t already dead. She exhales heavily despite the fact that she doesn’t need to breathe. It’s weird, she thinks, being a vampire. She’d thought about it all the time as a human, thought it would be wonderful to live forever, young and beautiful. Having fangs and superhuman strength and speed, thought that hey, being a vampire would be fun.
I was an idiot.
Then she got turned and early mornings she’d find herself waking Isabel to get her some blood from a butcher shop or something because she was hungry. And the hunger does what it wants. Isabel would get up without complaint and go grab some because she remembers what it was like to be a young vamp, constantly hungry and climbing the mountain of control with finger holds the size of quarters.
And even though the burning-to-ashes-in-sunlight thing was a myth, she did still burn. Different kinds of vampires have different reactions to sunlight. European and North American vampires get burns, but with a bit of blood they disappear. South American and Asian vampires tan, quickly and almost comically when stepping outside. African and Australian vampires sparkle, not a covered-in-glitter sparkle, but a gentle gleam that makes them look almost siren like. While Chloe has no idea what Arctic vampires might do in the sunlight, she can’t imagine any would want to live on an ice cap.
A wet sucking noise makes Chloe’s gaze jump up from Isabel feeding to the human. A high school student maybe. Probably no older than Isabel when Isabel was turned.
Isabel has no qualms with killing her victims or as she likes to refer to them, meals on wheels. Four hundred eighty something year old vampires rarely care about anything other than meals and their ‘offspring’. Chloe on the other hand has serious issues with killing someone. She’s only killed once.
Plus she’s only three.
Chloe puts her head back on her knees and wraps her arms around her legs.
“Want some?”
She looks up startled. Isabel is holding out the unbitten side of a person’s neck. Chloe cranes her head to look at the face. Grey eyes meet hers, clouded from the venom in Isabel’s fangs, but fear is still very present in them.
“…help.. …me…”
“Oh my god Isabel, they’re still awake!”
Isabel looks down at the scared human and frowns.
“Well duh, the blood tastes better when they’re scared.”
Chloe shakes her head.
“No thanks, I’ll get something later.”
Sigh.
“You can’t live off of animal blood forever; soon you’re going to need some human blood.”
Chloe scowls at Isabel, forehead creasing and fangs bared.
“No. I’m fine. I can do just fine without feeding from a human.”
Isabel rolls her eyes and goes back to feeding from the human. Chloe closes her eyes as the body goes limp. She can hear the heartbeat slow to a stop. Isabel sighs contentedly and flashes Chloe a bloody smile.
Dropping the bloodless corpse, Isabel wipes her mouth and meets Chloe’s eyes .
“Look, I know you’re scared of killing-”
“I’m not!”
Isabel ignores the interruption. Chloe frowns, thinking about the first time she killed.
“-but you need something more substantiation than hamburger guts. I stand by what I said earlier. You need to eat. You don’t have to kill them, just drink a few mouthfuls. Five tops.”
Chloe frowns and stands up.
Fine.
Isabel smiles and leads the way out of the alley. Looking both ways for a possible victim. A grin lights up her face and she nods to their left. Chloe follows her gaze. A girl is exiting a house, waving good-bye and putting in her ear buds. Isabel and Chloe start walking in the direction the girl is walking. The two vampires wait until they are at a corner before waving good-bye to each other. Isabel turning right Chloe standing at the corner waiting for the light to turn white.
She crosses the street and Chloe follows. The girl turns right and so does Chloe. Chloe smiles because this is an alley and the girl doesn’t seem to know that. Oh yes. An easy meal then she and Isabel can go up to Minnesota for the winter. Chloe enters the alley and frowns. The girl isn’t in immediate sight.
Where could she be?
The answer is given to her in the form of a water balloon hitting the back of her head. It explodes and its contents run down the back of her shirt. Wet and cold-wait. Not cold. Hot.
Burning hot.
Holy water.
“Fuck!”
“Take that vamp bitch!”
Chloe uses her super speed to air dry herself and whirls around to see the small girl lunging at her with a stake. With reflexes and strength she wasn’t sure she had, Chloe rips the stake out of her hand and throws it back out into the street. The girl scowls and pulls out a cross. Thrusting it in Chloe’s direction.
Oh god, it’s a slayer.
Chloe falls backwards and starts scrambling away from the cross. The girl keeps pressing forwards with the cross in one hand and reaching for something behind her with the other. Once they’re within arm’s reach of each other, she drops the crucifix and stabs at Chloe’s chest with another stake.
“..!”
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one’s perspective, Chloe catches the girl’s wrists just as the tip touched her shirt. This girl was strong; a common quality among slayers, and with the angle, Chloe finds herself in this position with the girl.
“Damn it…”
The girl starts pressing harder and Chloe winces as it starts digging into her skin. I need to get away… Now!
Frantically, Chloe scans the alley, but there’s nothing that can be used as a counter weapon.
Of course.
She could knock the girl to the side and make a run for it, but there’s no guarantee that the slayer won’t stake her while she’s running away.
Looking back up at the girl, Chloe gets an idea.
She smiles.
The other girl frowns and her struggling to kill Chloe stops for a second.
“What are you smiling abo-mmph!”
Chloe snaps her head up and presses their lips together. Smile growing as the girl’s grip on the stake loosens. Awkwardly and without grace, Chloe leans into the kiss; fighting the blush that rises to her cheeks. When the girl’s grip is loose enough, Chloe pushes her off and makes a dead sprint out of the alley. She starts running towards the hotel where she and Isabel are staying.
Because she still needs to eat and Isabel is more than capable of killing this slayer. Then she can go find someone else to kill and she can kill someone else once she has this goddamn slayer off her goddamn back.
Chloe shudders.
I should have listened to Isabel when she was talking about slayers…
It’s her first encounter with a slayer, but she didn’t think it would be like that.
Gingerly, she reaches up and touches her still tingling lips as she rounds a corner.
“I guess first kisses really are a spur of the moment thing.”
Chloe slows her pace as she approaches the building and smiles, looking around. No one’s following her, good.
She shoves her hands in her pockets and starts walking the last two blocks to the hotel.
Now I just have to explain to Isabel why-
“Oomph!”
A body slams into her side and knocks both of them into a side street. The body picks itself immediately and moves away from her.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!”
Chloe looks up, rubbing her head.
“What are you-”
It’s the slayer.
“-talking about…”
The girl is pacing back and worth waving her arms around and holding an open water bottle.
Water flies out of the open top and some of it lands on Chloe’s arms.
She hisses.
Holy water in a bottle… Seriously?!
“You can’t just do that!”
Chloe jumps as a larger splash hits her legs.
“Agh! Fuck! What do you mean?!”
The girl turns around and thrusts a cross in Chloe’s direction, forcing the vampire to back into a wall.
“You can’t just take someone’s first kiss and run away like that! It’s rude! And you’re a fucking vampire! Oh my god. I just kissed a vampire. Oh god. Shit. Shitshitshitshitshit. Fuck! I kissed a vampire! Mmmph!”
The girl flails her arms in an attempt to show her confusion, but only succeeds in throwing more holy water on Chloe’s face. She scrubs at it hurriedly and hisses at the steam that flows from the wound. The girl thrusts the cross in Chloe’s direction again, incoherently yelling, but Chloe bets that the words coming from her mouth are swears.
“You didn’t even bother to ask my name!”
“Fine. What’s your name?”
“Hannah!”
Nice name…
Chloe doesn’t dare say that out loud though, not with an angry, armed, slayer ready to stake her as soon as she’s done ranting.
“-I was saving that damn it!”
Hannah doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. Not that Chloe minds exactly, because Hannah’s actually really beautiful. Her blue eyes shine with anger and her hair is probably mused under her beanie, but that’s fine. That’s perfectly fine. Because she’s beautiful. And Chloe she’s well, she’s…
I’m so fucking gay…
“Do you have any idea how hard it is to be a seventeen year old girl in America and not have kissed someone?!”
Chloe looks up at Hannah with fangs bared.
“Would you shut up?! It was my first kiss too!”
Chloe regrets the words as soon as they’re out of her mouth. Hannah on the other hands stops and leans closer. Lowering the bottle of holy water and cross slightly.
“What did you just say?”
“…”
Hannah lowers her water bottle and cross the rest of the way.
“Was that your first kiss?”
“…”
Chloe refuses to speak; instead leveling her own clover green eyes in a dead stare at Hannah’s violently cerulean ones. Hannah’s eyes sharpen as she leans in, crossing her arms over her chest in an attempt to look threatening.
With a spirit she didn’t know she had, Chloe smirks at Hannah and tilts her head sideways.
“Is that supposed to scare me?”
For a second the tables are turned. Hannah falters in her interrogation and Chloe gains some ground.
Hannah huffs.
“Well… yeah. Generally it does.”
Chloe stands back up and makes a show of brushing off her clothes.
“It clearly doesn’t scare me, so if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be on my way.”
Hannah thrusts the crucifix in between Chloe and the exit of the alley.
“Not so fast.”
Aggravated, Chloe steps farther back into the alley.
“You gotta answer my question first.”
Chloe quirks an eyebrow.
“And what if I don’t want to?”
Hannah splashes some more holy water on Chloe in response.
Hiss.
“Jesus Christ! Fine! What is it?”
“Was that your first kiss?”
“…”
Hannah flicks her wrist and moves some of her hair back under her beanie.
“Well?”
“…yes…”
Hannah laughs and Chloe blushes. Crossing her arms over her chest and turning her head away. Stubbornly refusing to even look in Hannah’s direction.
“That wa-haha-was your first, your fir-first-ha-kiss.”
“Shut up.”
Hannah looks up at Chloe, holding her middle as she continues laughing.
“And how old are you? You’re probably like fifty in vamp years or something if you’ve never-“
“Three.”
“What?”
Chloe turns to look at Hannah.
“You heard me. Three.”
“Three hundred?”
“No just three.”
Hannah stops laughing.
“So that makes you like seventeen in human years then?”
“Yeah. What of it?”
Hannah gestures to herself.
“I’m seventeen.”
“Wow, you look like, fourteen.”
“So do you!”
“Yeah, but I was turned when I was fourteen. I’ll look fourteen until I die.”
Chloe smiles at Hannah’s frown.
That’s cute.
“That was your first kiss.”
Hannah’s turn to smile at Chloe’s frown.
“Whatever…”
“Chloe?”
Both girls’ heads turn to look at the opening of the alley.
Isabel stands at the opening with her arms crossed. Her eyes the blood red they get when she’s ready to attack. Her feet are wide apart and if Chloe had to guess, her hidden hands are balled into fists.
Hannah steps in front of Chloe. It’s a risky move, putting herself at a disadvantage and opening herself to Chloe. But it’s also smart, facing the stronger of the two vampires. Chloe’s eyes wide open because if Hannah wanted to, she could easily whip around and kill Chloe with the remainder of the holy water.
She shudders.
A rather gruesome death.
Chloe sends Isabel a distressed look.
“Who are you?”
A growl rumbles low in Isabel’s throat.
Chloe doesn’t have to see to know that Isabel’s fangs are already extended and ready for action.
“None of your business. Now get away from my kid and no one gets hurt.”
Hannah frowns.
“As if.”
Isabel growls.
“Let me rephrase that. Get the fuck away from my kid and I will make your death relatively painless.”
“Bring it on.”
Chloe’s only seen Isabel hunt normal humans. She toys with them and plays mind games until they fall right into her lap, filled with fear and paranoia.
But Hannah is not a normal human.
It only takes a para-second for Isabel to move from the alleyway opening to disarming Hannah and pinning the slayer to the wall by the throat. Several feet off the ground.
And Isabel is not in the mood to pay.
Chloe swallows as Hannah’s legs kick at the air. It’s not a pretty sight. The way Hannah’s pinned, her arms are trapped behind her back. And with nothing for her legs to get traction on, the only thing holding her up is Isabel’s grip on her throat. Bruises are already forming and Hannah’s face is turning red.
“STOP!”
At Chloe’s shout, Isabel loosens her grip and Hannah takes a deep breath of air, freeing her arms and using them to take some of the pressure off of her windpipe.
Isabel speaks to Chloe in a cold tone, but doesn’t take her eyes off of Hannah.
“What?”
Chloe reaches towards Isabel.
“Let her down. Please.”
Isabel glances sideways at Chloe and sighs. Then she drops Hannah and steps back , but still close enough to kill the slayer if needed.
“What?”
Chloe wrings her hands and watches Hannah cough and hold her throat taking in ragged breaths. She’s shaking, shaking hard, she hasn’t felt this anxious since she was alive.
Isabel notices and snarls at Hannah.
“What did you do to her?”
Hannah shakes her head as much as she can.
“Why the fuck are you putting the blame on me!? I didn’t do anything damn it!”
Isabel hisses at Hannah and the smaller girl scowls back. When the slayer doesn’t break, the older vampire turns to Chloe. Blood red eyes slowly turning back to blue.
“Well? What is it? Why did you want me to let her go?”
Chloe bites her lip and fiddles with her jacket cuffs.
“You see-it’s umm. She-well I actually-I mean it totally wasn’t on purpose! Except it sort of was-but I didn’t mean to get attached. Yeah! Attached-and so basically what happened was we umm… we sort of uh, kissed.”
Isabel’s eyes flash back to red before Chloe can finish the –ed in kissed.
“What the fuck were you thinking?!”
“I was trying not to get killed!”
“No! I meant about me letting her go! A kiss does not equal an all access pass to not being killed by vampires!”
“WELL IT DOES TO ME!”
“WHY?!”
“BECAUSE THAT WAS MY FIRST KISS!”
Isabel stops yelling to stare at Chloe.
“Are you serious?”
Chloe waves her hands around exasperatedly.
“Yes! Okay? That was my first kiss! I’m three-fourteen-seventeen-whatever and I haven’t kissed anyone yet! Except Hannah! That was my first kiss! Are you happy now?!”
Hannah snickers.
“Oh shut up! That was your first kiss too!”
“So? I’m a human, not a vampire. I don’t get half the opportunities to kiss people as you do, little miss creature of the night.”
“I am not little. I’m like, a foot taller than you! And that is such a stupid name for me!”
“It is not! You’re stupid!”
“No, you’re stupid!”
“You’re stupider!”
“You’re stupidest!”
Hannah steps forward into Chloe’s bubble of personal space.
Isabel watches from a small distance, eating popcorn.
Where did she get that?
“And I liked it better when you weren’t talking!”
“When I wasn’t talking, I was kissing you!”
“Then maybe you should!”
“Maybe I will!”
Chloe becomes vaguely aware of a weird pulsating sensation in her chest as heat starts to rise to Hannah’s cheeks. Both girls’ inches from each other as the notion of Hannah’s threat washes over them.
“You’re too scared to!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Then prove it!”
“Fine!”
Hannah grabs Chloe by the front of her jacket and pulls her down for another kiss. She tangles one hand in Chloe’s short hair as Chloe fumbles with putting her hands Hannah’s waist. Squeezing and yelping when Hannah bites her lip hard enough to draw blood.
Chloe’s vaguely aware of Isabel’s whistle as she pulls away. Trying not to blush when she sees Hannah’s bloody smile. Hannah crosses her arms and looks away, suddenly frowning, despite the smile that tugs at the corners of her mouth. Chloe follows suit, glaring at Isabel, still eating popcorn.
Clearing her throat, Hannah tugs at the lapels of Chloe’s jacket, straightening them out. Then reaching up to fix her beanie as she swallows quietly.
“Don’t think this means anything vampire.”
“Same to you slayer.”
“Ahem.”
Isabel looks entirely too smug as she leans against one of the alley walls.
“Are you kids done sucking face yet or what?”
Hannah flips off Isabel with scowl.
“This still doesn’t change anything vampire.”
“Right.”
Isabel turns and starts leaving the alley. Chloe moving to follow behind her.
Chloe makes it two steps before turning around and thrusting a piece of paper into Hannah’s hand.
“Here’s my number.”
“Same, here’s mine.”
“Do you two wanna kiss again before you have to leave?”
This time two teenagers yell at Isabel.
“SHUT UP!”

Vampire Chloah AU
I apologize for the wait in uploading this but here it is, I also wrote Chloe’s first kill scene, if you’re interested in reading it, send me an ask or message me and I’ll send it to you.
“...help.. ...me...”
Isabel turning right Chloe standing at the corner waiting for the light to turn red.
Holy water. “Fuck!” “Take that vamp bitch!” Chloe uses her super speed to air dry herself and whirls around to see the small girl lunging at her with a stake. “..!” Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one’s perspective, Chloe catches the girl’s wrists just as the tip touched her shirt. This girl was strong; a common quality among slayers, and with the angle, Chloe finds herself in this position with the girl. “Damn it…” The girl starts pressing harder and Chloe winces as it starts digging into her skin. “What are you smiling abo- mmph!” Chloe snaps her head up and presses their lips together. I should have listened to Isabel when she was talking about slayers… It’s her first encounter with a slayer, but she didn’t think it would be like that. Gingerly, she reaches up and touches her still tingling lips as she rounds a corner. “I guess first kisses really are a spur of the moment thing.” Chloe slows her pace as she approaches the building and smiles, looking around. No one’s following her, good. She shoves her hands in her pockets and starts walking the last two blocks to the hotel. Now I just have to explain to Isabel why- “Oomph!” A body slams into her side and knocks both of them into a side street. The body picks itself immediately and moves away from her. “What the hell is wrong with you?!” Chloe looks up, rubbing her head. “What are you-” It’s the slayer. “-talking about…” The girl is pacing back and worth waving her arms around and holding an open water bottle. Water flies out of the open top and some of it lands on Chloe’s arms. She hisses. Holy water in a bottle… Seriously?! “You can’t just do that!” Chloe jumps as a larger splash hits her legs. “Agh! Fuck! What do you mean?!” The girl turns around and thrusts a cross in Chloe’s direction, forcing the vampire to back into a wall. “You can’t just take someone’s first kiss and run away like that! It’s rude! And you’re a fucking vampire! Oh my god. I just kissed a vampire. Oh god. Shit. Shitshitshitshitshit. Fuck! I kissed a vampire! I don’t. I actually really enjoy breaking this up, but you’re a vampire and you’re a slayer, so I got some news to tell ya. Listen up kids.” Chloe tilts her head, trying to remain calm because Isabel has that creepy as smile on her face. “News?” Hannah takes a less subtle approach. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Isabel smiles and cracks her knuckles. Throwing the empty popcorn bag into a nearby dumpster as she takes a deep breath and holds herself with a ‘holier than thou’ look. “As many vampires fail to understand, when they kiss a slayer, they become bonded to that slayer. Not bonded as in ‘you’re my partner for the rest of the week’ kind of bonded. It’s more of a ‘we’re partners for life’ kind of bonded.” In an attempt to convey her confusion, Chloe flails her arms. “AGH! Isabel, you can’t just “What are we now, mates?!” Isabel interjects with a raised finger. “More like Soul mates kiddies.” Hannah puts her face in her hands. “Oh my god that’s even worse!” Chloe blinks, then looks at Isabel with a bewildered stare. “Soul… mates?” “Yep.” Chloe slides to the ground and puts her head between her legs. “Oh my god. Oh god. Oh my god. Oh shit. Oh fuck. Oh god.” She looks up desperately at Isabel, Hannah pacing and swearing at about the same rate a few inches from her. “Is there any way to reverse this.” Isabel looks entirely too smug as she leans against one of the alley walls. “Nope.” Hannah nods stoicly. “This still doesn’t change anything vampire.” “Right.” Isabel turns and starts leaving the alley. Chloe moving to follow behind her. Chloe makes it two steps before turning around and thrusting a piece of paper into Hannah’s hand. “Here’s my number.” “Same, here’s mine.” “Do you two wanna kiss again before you have to leave?” This time two teenagers yell at Isabel. “SHUT UP!”

Hannah watches from the doorway as Chloe talks to people. She’s nice and easy tonight. Anxiety has taken a hike to hell and things are looking up. Students from all five high schools are making conversation with her. A few even try asking her out, but each time Chloe says no and nods over to her girlfriend. Hannah nods back and raises her Gatorade. Beside her, Isabel laughs whenever someone gets rejected. Hannah closes her fingers a little tighter around her bottle with each person.
One boy in particular has her almost crushing the plastic cylinder. He doesn’t accept her first rejection. He instead presses forward and tries to touch her waist. Chloe pushes his hand back and steps away. A few kids look over and the boy stops. The second rejection is loud and clear. He leaves fuming and embarrassed.
Who the hell said any of you get a taste?
Isabel laughs at Hannah’s white knuckled grip. She waves her own Gatorade around in a circle of Hannah’s left hand. Spilling a little as she continues snickering.
“If you’re so jealous, why don’t you go over and do something about it?”
The words catch her off guard and Hannah physically flinches, like she tripped, even though she’s standing still and leaning against a door. Wall. Door frame. Thing.
Stupid.
Isabel laughs again, harder, and Chloe comes over to investigate. Concern falls across her face like the fair in her eyes. A frown crosses her lips and her eyebrows furrow, producing a cute expression. Half worried, ninety percent cute.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothin.”
The resident redhead standing beside, her chokes on her drink laughing. Chloe a off and returns with napkins, handing them to Isabel with shaking hands. She accepts them and starts wiping blood red sugar water off her face.
“Holy shit-I’m sorry! I’m so so sorry! I didn’t mean-I wasn’t trying to-”
Hannah doesn’t need X-ray vision or telepathic powers to see the anxiety flooding through Chloe’s veins. Gingerly she reaches out and takes one of the quaking hands in hers. Chloe looks at her with scared eyes. Wide and frightened like she’s going to fall apart at any second. Almost immediately Chloe calms, looking first at Isabel, who waves her off with an ‘it’s fine’.
Then to Hannah who smiles warmly and tugs Chloe closer. Pulling her down until they’re at the right height. Chloe leans in kisses Hannah on the corner of her lips, not quite brave enough to go all the way on the first try. Hannah snorts and sets her Gatorade on a table in favor of putting it on the back of Chloe’s neck to pull her in for a proper kiss.
“Alright. I’m out, call me when you’re done sucking face.”
Chloe throws Isabel a ‘thumbs up’ as the red head waltzes over to a few kids who’ve decided playing twister was a good idea. She picks up the spinner and flicks it. Cruelly calling out the result.
“Right hand red!”
A groan rises from the assembled players as they dutifully place there hand on the crimson circle. Isabel flicks it again as Hannah wraps her arms around
A guy who Chloe had previously rejected struts over as they pull apart. He’s clearly drunk, his eyes wide and unfocused. His steps are clumsy, but arrogant. And as he comes to a stop inches from the two of them he wobbles on unsteady feet.
He wraps an arm around Chloe’s shoulders and pulls them apart, a bottle of something. (Hannah can’t see the label, but anyone can empty a container and then fill it with something else) in his right hand. His left holds her left shoulder and forces her to face him. Hannah’s brain short circuits as Chloe moves her hands to push against his chest, but to no avail. The guy has muscles.
Do you ever wanna get up all in your face?
She is unbelievably pissed right now, and there’s not a damn thing she can do, because her body won’t fucking move. The guy starts moving in for a kiss, but Chloe turns her head at the last second and the chapped lips land on her cheek. She shudders. Terrified eyes lock onto Hannah’s.
Hannah snaps.
“Hey fucktard.”
The guy turns and sneers. His arm is still around Chloe, and Chloe’s still pushing back, still to no avail, but at least he’s not trying to kiss her anymore.
“What?”
“That’s my girlfriend.”
He laughs. Cold and heartless.
“Oh please. A runt like you? She’s mine.”
He turns back to Chloe and runs his eyes over her trembling body. Chloe’s shaking so hard it looks like she’s vibrating. Hannah’s hands clench into fists and she pushes his shoulder so he’s forced to look at her.
“No. Her name, is Chloe. And she is mine.”
The male sneers again and finishes off his bottle. In the background, Isabel has stopped the game of twister and is making her way over to the scene. Grabbing an empty flower vase as a weapon.
“Fuck off cunt.”
Silence falls in the room.
Hannah feels something inside her pull tight like an elastic band. Ready to break.
“What did you just call me?”
The guy laughs and leans a little closer, still keeping an iron grip on Chloe.
“Cunt.”
Snap.
“Shut the fuck up you pathetic piece of shit. No one wants you here. Why don’t you just get the fuck out and crawl back into whatever trash can you live in?”
You better take it.
“Ooooh…”
Chloe’s expression goes from terror to surprise in a heartbeat. Eyebrows disappearing behind her hairline as she processes Hannah’s words. The shock fades and she gives a half smile to Hannah.
And nothing you can do could make me go away.
Unfortunately, the guy sees the smile and scowls at the girls.
“HOW DARE YOU?!”
All Hannah’s confidence drains out of her at the shout. Her instincts beg and cry out for her to run. Run far, far away from the threat. But that would mean leaving Chloe behind. Leaving Chloe behind with this bastard. No. That’s not how Hannah works. Even if she doesn’t have any real confidence left, there’s still one thing she can do.
Fake it
She smiles and leans back against the wall. Crossing her arms over her chest as she tilts her head up. Doing her level best to give off an arrogant, confident, maybe even dominant arua. She catches Chloe’s eye and tries to convey her thinking.
Chloe does not respond, either she’s terrified by the whole thing or she’s trying to calm down.
Hannah really hopes it’s the second one.
“How dare I what?”
The guy straightens up and all but snarls at Hannah. Teeth bare, muscles pulling skin back tightly against his skull. The sight is enough to make one kid run out in tears, a few run out after them.
After they’ve untangled themselves from the gruesome mess that Isabel put them in.
Poor baby I’m gonna make it all okay.
“Don’t fuck around with me bitch.”
The words themselves are small explosions. Each letter a bomb dropping on the tiny body Hannah’s soul resides in.
On any other occasion, Hannah would be shaking with them. But not tonight.
She smiles semi-sweetly at him.
“I’m afraid I have no idea what you’re whining about.”
The guy snaps and drops his bottle. It lands on the ground and tips over, spilling, yep, alcohol onto the ground. He releases Chloe, who steps back and resumes her trembling.
He reaches forward with hands stretched out, ready to choke her. Hannah ducks under his arms and jumps up. Effectively head butting his chin and making him stumble in his advance. But she doesn’t stop there. She brings her knee up to him in the crotch, hard. As he bends over to hold his ‘masculinity’ she takes his shoulder blades in her hands and pulls his head toward her knee.
Something warm and wet make its way through the fabric of her jeans. She glances at the slowly spreading dark stain. Blood. She scowls subconsciously, she likes these pants. Hannah brings her elbow down hard on his back, and he grunts as he starts falling. He hits the floor with a thump, but Hannah isn’t done yet.
Punch your lights out.
She throws her foot up high in the air, brings it crashing down on his side. Heel first. He grunts and coughs and Hannah thinks maybe she heard something crack, or at least pop. Yes, boots were a good idea to wear to this party.
A hand closes around her right fist.
Hannah looks up. Chloe’s smiling at her. A little shaky, but still there. Still smiling. Still okay.
“We should probably get out of here.”
She points and Hannah follows her gaze to a kid whose dialing 911. They nod and say something into the electric device. Then cover the mouth piece and look up at the two girls.
“911 is going to be on its way. We’ve got it covered, just get out of here!”
Isabel nods and pushes them out the back door. Gemma appearing quickly behind her and taking her place as Isabel and a few other kids start moving the guy and the beer bottles downstairs.
“I’ll meet you guys back at my house as soon as this is cleaned up okay?”
“Got it.”
Chloe smiles at Gemma, then turns Hannah. Grinning ear to ear from the adrenaline rush. Hannah smiles back, and starts running. Holding Chloe’s hand. Chloe does more of jogging thing, but she holds onto Hannah the seven blocks back to Gemma’s house.
Hit the pavement.
They’re kicking off their shoes when the first siren goes by. It’s followed by an ambulance, and a few seconds later, the loud screaming of a fire truck.
The remark slips out before Hannah can stop it.
“It sounds like a dying clown car…”
Chloe laughs hard. Doubling over as she struggles against her shoelaces. Soon abandoning her attempts at freedom in favor of holding her middle. Chloe’s laughter is contagious and Hannah finds herself wheezing. It honestly wasn’t that funny of a joke, but it was pretty good.
Hannah tries to control her laughter as she reaches forward to finish untying Chloe’s shoelace for her. Chloe notices and, for a brief moment, attempts to intervene. But Hannah waves off her hand and does it for her girlfriend.
That’s what I call entertainment.
“You didn’t have to do that. I could have done I-”
“-shhh. I wanted to do it.”
Chloe blushes and looks down at her sock clad feet. They’re sitting in the middle of the entry way area. On a mat that’s meant for mud, but always manages to be spotless. It’s a pretty good contrast to Chloe’s clothes. Or maybe Hannah’s just biased.
Hannah gently pushes at Chloe’s knees. Chloe looks up at Hannah and spreads them, it’s not far, but it’s far enough that Hannah can move between them. They sit face to face and Hannah just sort of stares into Chloe’s eyes. This beautiful sort of green that makes her think of that one video game that has an immortal, eternal forest. They’re emerald eyes.
Eyes that are not meeting hers. Again Chloe is shaking, or maybe she’s always shaking, and only sometimes she’s still.
Chloe looks back up to meet Hannah’s. She knows Chloe likes her eyes. The way they hover between colors. Brown and something else. She leans in a little, and Chloe leans into meet her.
Bzzzt!
The phone’s text notification stars both of them. Hannah dismisses it and leans in again.
Bzzzt! Bzzt!
Hannah sighs and dismisses the texts again. Leaning in one more time because third time’s th-
Bzzt! Bzzt! Bzzt! Bzzzt!
“For the love god!”
Chloe leans back a little and furrows her brow.
“What is it?”
“I don’t know.”
Hannah pulls out her phone to actually look at the messages.
Nice job fighting that douche Han!
It’s an unknown number.
We told them that he fell down the stairs and that he broke into the stash the parents keep and the police believe us! Apparently he’s gotten in trouble before so they just took him away and let us keep going!
Isabel.
And I’m gonna go torture the eighth graders with another round of twister? You guys wanna come back?
Isabel again.
Since the cops left I’m gonna stay a little longer, you guys gonna be okay?
Gemma.
Hey there’s a guy that’s been bothering me. Can you beat him up like you did tonight with that guy?
Unknown number.
Bzzzt! Bzzzt!
Hannah shows Chloe the screen.
“Looks like you’re famous.”
Hannah laughs.
“They make it sound like I’m a hero.”
Causin problems makes you famous.
Chloe pouts at Hannah. Although it looks like she’s trying to be serious, Hannah can’t take Chloe that seriously when she’s fucking adorable and she’s between Chloe’s legs.
“So does that mean I get a reward?”
Hannah smiles at her. All flashy teeth and seduction eyes. Chloe blushes and looks towards the door. Like someone might walk in at any second, but that’s not possible because everyone is either asleep or still at the party.
“Maybe…”
“Maybe?”
“Maybe yes?”
“Maybe no.”
Hannah pouts and Chloe smiles, leaning in and kissing her. Soft and easy. Hannah smiles to herself, Chloe wasn’t lying about the eos working.
“When I was! A young boy! My fa-”
Chloe sighs and answers her phone.
“Hello?
“Honey are you okay?”
“Yeah, why?”
“There was an accident nearby with a party. I wanted to make sure that you’re alright. Apparently someone was intoxicated, and I don’t want you in an area with drunks hurting themselves. I’m coming pick up okay?”
“Okay.”
“Alright, I’ll be there in twenty, apologize to Gemma’s parents for me alright?”
“Alright, just give me a minute and I’ll have my stuff together.”
“Okay, bye honey.”
“Bye mom.”
Hannah chews on the inside of her cheek as she pulls out her phone. Chloe’s frowning at her phone, sad and upset. God Hannah hates seeing Chloe down like this.
“I’ll tell Isabel to sound the alarm.”
Chloe offers a meek smile as Hannah opens the conversation.
“Thank you.”
“No problem.”
H: Sound the alarm
I: Red or Green?
H: Green
I: Oh damn. I’m on it
H: Thank
A second later their phones buzz.
CODE GREEN NERDS!!! BACK TO GEMMA’S WE McFUCKIN’ GO
Chloe all but chokes on her breath at Isabel’s text. She puts her phone back down and looks at Hannah, still between her legs, and smiles.
“Well, tonight has been a night.”
Hannah snickers.
“I’ll say.”
On the other side of the house, the screen for the back door is thrown open as the squad stumbles in. Isabel kicks off her shoes and leads the way to Gemma’s bedroom while Gemma herself starts washing off make-up and messing up her hair so it looks like she was sleeping. Then she runs to her room, presumably to change into presentable sleeping clothes.
One minute later, the squad marches out holding pillows, stuffed animals, blankets, and of course, phones. They sit down and campout, being the good friends they are, they’ve brought Chloe’s bag as well.
Hannah kisses Chloe’s cheek.
“I’ll go hide, while your mom comes to get you.”
She stands up.
“I don’t wanna get you in trouble or anything.”
Chloe stands up with her, half leaning against the wall, half on her feet. Hannah still in between her legs.
“Yeah, but before you go…”
She leans in and kisses Hannah harder than before. Not rougher per say, but definitely more intense. Chloe pulls away and smiles. Hannah stands there. Staring at Chloe’s lips and yes she wants to kiss them again. Hannah looks up at Chloe’s eyes in an attempt to focus, and oh god she really wants to kiss Chloe again. But she can’t because Chloe’s mom is coming over soon and they can’t get caught.
Hannah steps back and lets Chloe grab her bag. She flashes Chloe a smile and retreats to Gemma’s room to wait out the pick-up. She listens to the door close and Chloe call good bye. Listens to the door slam and the car start. Listens to the car pulling away and driving down the road.
The squad marches back into the room and starts an especially sinful round of Cards against Humanity. Hannah pulls out her phone and sends a message to Chloe.
H: Sorry for tonight
C: No I’m sorry, I should have seen him coming and done something about it
H: No, it’s my fault for hurting that much, otherwise your mom wouldn’t have come to pick you up
C: Don’t worry about it I love you
H: I love you too
C: Sorry I gtg. Good night
H: Good night I love you chipmunk
C: I love you too
Hannah flops back on her pillow and locks her phone. She moves to hold it, trying to fall asleep. It would honestly be so much easier if Chloe was here to hold. But Chloe’s not here, so she’ll just have to make do. She holds it closer and breathes in the barely there scent of Chloe.
She’ll survive.
She’ll be fine.
All the violence makes a statement.
