Finally got around to coloring these sketches! Meet Headmaster Starlyle and his apprentice, Fiyarno.
Having some fun with character designs! Meet Headmaster Starlyle and Fiyarno (and his familiar, Clover the Scarfy).
Starlyle is a well respected wizard who oversees a magic school. He does a great deal of work to give his students the best he can offer, wanting the future of magic to be bright and hopeful. Fiyarno is one of his students, an anxious young lad from Patchland who shows great promise in his sorcery. He's got a knack for knitting together small creatures to help him with tasks, though Clover is the only one he keeps around permanently (she's his favorite). He shows great promise, but his confidence is a little lacking.
Finally got around to throwing some color on Quilton the Cozy and Fiyarno the Frayed! I've shared more about them in another post, but for everyone new here: these are the two halves that make up Yin Yarn for my AU! They are husbands (my beloved poly pans in a poncho) that were fused together in a last ditch effort to free Patchland from Nightmare's wrath (which corrupted their souls and sent them down the path of evil).
Quilton is the middle child in his family. His older sister is Drawcia, and his younger sisters are Paintra and Vividria. Fiyarno is an only child, an orphan from Patchland that found his family in constructing familiars.
So within the last month or so, I ran a plot in a Kirby RP server that came with a fun plot twist: Yin Yarn is two people! Okay that's not particularly surprising if you've played Epic Yarn (happy belated anniversary by the way, can you believe this game has been out for 15 years as of yesterday? WILD). BUT! What is surprising is how it comes to be.
Meet Quilton the Cozy and Fiyarno the Frayed! These two sorcerers (along with their third partner, the Wonderful Woolfgang) were all amazing in their respective forms of crafting magic (quilting, knitting, and needle felting respectively). They were once dorm mates at magic school, until it blossomed into something more. Happily married by the great Squashini, the three of them moved to Fiyarno's home world of Patchland, a curious little planet that turns all that enter its atmosphere into yarn.
But not all was peaceful. For Nightmare, nefarious force that he is, targeted Patchland (amongst many other planets), and proceeded to reign terror on it for years. The three sorcerers worked hard to defend their home from such a monster, but he was too powerful. Plan after plan to defeat him failed, and they were getting desperate. Fiyarno caved into using a dark magic to bolster himself, and it was slowly eating away and corrupting him from deep within his soul. And he continued to use it, even though he knew it would destroy him.
When it went too far, Quilton, upon realizing what his husband had done, refused to let this be the end. Crafting a Metamortex (those magic sigils Kirby and Fluff used to become a tank, UFOs, dolphins, etc) out of the same dark magic, he fused the two of them together, intending to extend Fiyarno's life until he could find a way to fix things. But this...would not go as planned. There was so little of Fiyarno's soul left, that sticking the two together was barely a crutch. They both ceased to be in favor of something new, something that could sustain them in their current state.
This was the birth of Yin Yarn, who was so corrupted by his whims. After they managed to drive Nightmare away, Yin Yarn's focus turned not to fix what was broken, but to take the planet for himself.
Bobbin doesn't remember her uncle being two people. It was as much a surprise to her as it was to her friends when they undid his curse of turning the Nexus into yarn. But what's more, they blame her for why they were stuck as one person. Why? What does she have to do with it? That, my friends, is a story for another time.~
