“Today I wondered What is the worth of a day? Once a day was long—Not anymore. The “day” no longer exists. The smallest unit of time I experience is the week. But in recent years the week like the penny has also become uselessly small currency. The month is more typically the smallest unit of time I experience. But truthfully speaking months are not so noticeable either” ~Heidi Julavitzs The Folded Clock

The Folded Clock by Heidi Julavits manages to tell every possible truth at once. Every which way her stream of consciousness meandered I followed willingly with no thought at all to the destination. Really reading her words felt little apart from thinking my own thoughts. Perhaps that’s why I found joy in the Persian root of her name Julavitzs—>from the Persian ‘Julab’ (Rose) in Urdu ‘Ghulab.’ (the urdu connection is mine) I felt perhaps in this etymology of names theres a kinship in the tracks we lay for our train of thoughts 🚂✨📚
