As an educator, I despair at how so many people seem to live in alternate realities. I start asking myself “what’s the point of teaching anything if people prefer to delusion themselves into whatever’s more convenient for them?” That’s the situation we’re increasingly faced with, and it’s exhausting. But I really don’t want to give up…so yeah, I guess it really is a time to roll up our sleeves. It won’t be easy and we’ll have to get creative…but after some healing, I hope we’ll find strength to keep up the fight.

To whom it may concern,

I’m kind of dancing between this blog and my new one, @feolnir, right now.

I want to come back to this place *gestures at Tumblr*, but I’m kind of in this liminal zone? I’d like to find closure from the disastrous burnout that took down my other blog, @fjorn-the-skald. I’ve jumped on that blog recently, too, and it’s…a mess. I lost the website, so all of the links are broken and the updated content is, seemingly, gone. That’s both okay and not great, but it can’t be helped. I’m rambling a bit now, but occasionally (like now) I feel the urge to patch things up a bit so I can move on, but I’m not sure that’s possible? Sometimes we must live with blemishes…

Anyway, I’m both here and there right now.

I’ve played with the idea of returning to ‘academia’ in some form, but realistically I only have the energy (and time) for my fantasy writing. Alas, I can’t do all that I wish I could. That said, I still occasionally read academic work to learn and be inspired for my creative endeavors (since I’m a hopeless worldbuilding nerd). I’d still like to talk about medieval history things, too.

What can I say? I’m in a fae mood.

In no medieval world would I be a Viking, but rather, I hope, a whimsy wanderer (from the north) dancing in medieval markets, searching for stories to hear, and sampling special food or drink wherever my feet (or ship) may take me.

I’m glad to finally feel the Yuletide spirit this year. I haven’t felt festive for the past 2 years due to poor mental health. Life’s not perfect and the world is still full of ever-growing woe, but I’m at least managing to make a small fort of comfort for myself to weather it through, seemingly.

While looking around for a Yule Goat, I told my wife “more whimsy, less mansy” because so many shops have that hyper-masculine ‘Viking’ aesthetic that’s personally not for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s hard enough being neurodivergent, but overstimulating myself because my own mind has too many thoughts all at once? Big oof.

Aside from working on updating an old video (despite telling myself I’d wait a bit), I’ll be posting another chapter of my fantasy web novel on @feolnir tomorrow morning. I’m sadly nearing the end of my queue on that front and could use some encouragement 😅
