Inktober day two: Weave

a little while ago i saw someone on here talk about how gawain wasn’t stripped of her queerness but instead was given more options. while i partially do agree that she was given more options, i still think it was completely unnecessary to do that and how i think it still counts as queer erasure & homophobia. so here’s my opinion about it as a lesbian

first of all, when merlin removes the spell, she calls this a “curse” instead of a “spell”, and calling attraction to girls a curse is pretty odd if you really think about it. merlin then makes up an excuse and says she did this with “loving intentions” which is stupid because in what world is that loving? its like when you say a slur but apparently its okay cuz you didn’t mean it in a derogatory way. why would she project herself onto her and immediately assume that her first crush wouldn’t reciprocate her feelings the way meliodas didn’t like her back? and the fact that she placed this “curse” on her ever since she was a BABY without her consent and keeping it a secret from her in her entire life is just very weird.

second, the motive behind merlin placing the spell on her is extremely stupid. your first crush likes someone else so you force a sexuality on your kid just so a man won’t hurt her feelings? its like nakaba assumes that all wlw relationships are healthy, and that a woman would never hurt another womans feelings. which, again, is a very weird thing to assume.

third, the way gawain’s lesbianism was written was very unusual. she gets attracted to every woman she sees on the spot and everytime anne or isolde or any other girl is around she gets all lovestruck over them. why the hell would nakaba assume lesbians love every single woman they see? preferences literally exist. if you’re gonna erase her lesbianism soon enough then at least write it properly before doing it.

fourth, if merlin wanted to avoid gawain’s feelings to get hurt, then why couldn’t she just put a spell that makes her aroace? why not just remove her attraction to everyone instead of limiting it to one gender? it makes no sense to make her only attracted to women. it doesn’t take a smartass to realize that the whole thing is entirely stupid & homophobic.

dni if you genuinely believe that gawain’s queer erasure isn’t weird and homophobic in any way because it 100% is. genuinely one of the top 3 stupidest things in fkoa. like what even was the point? the story could still progress normally whether or not she’s a lesbian, so what was nakaba’s thought process when he made that shit up?????? it genuinely pisses me off so much oh my god dude

(I’m so mad I’m so mad Nakaba I am okay with you putting her through the horrors because that’s exactly what the prophecy she fears foretold but istg if you turn her into the “dead wife” trope I’m murdering you and whoever is within your 50 meter^2 radius)

*cough* *cough* ANYWAYS!!!! Have a song that I associate with Guinevere a lot due to her lack of autonomy in a fate that has been pre-written for her since her childhood. A sense of foreboding paired with acceptance that stems from hopelessness is just so unequivocally true to her character, unfortunately.
