Leonard is in the bedroom, blueprints and plans all over the sheets. Entering the home security business after years of being a hero--legend--seems nice when it comes with working with your best friend. And the life in the present, without super villains or magical creatures chasing them, is great, especially living with the love of your life.
Their company’s next job is installing a home security system for the newly opened grocery store and they were given a close deadline. Although the tech is in place, they had to test it again later tonight for its opening on Sunday. He’s assured that it will work. He isn’t the best in his field for nothing.
But even for him, this is overworking.
He was just putting the papers away to lie down for a while when he heard their door open. It was too early for the hero work at STAR Labs to have finished, so this was a surprise.
“Len?” he heard Sara calling him from their living room. Keys dropped on the bowl by the door. The thud of shoes he’d inevitable tell her to properly place on the shoe rack. And the door of the refrigerator opening.
“Bedroom,” he answered.
After a little while, Sara found him lying down, looking so warm and comfortable. And the view of that just drew her in.
Before he could even say anything, Sara flopped down beside him and hugged him, taking comfort at the crook of his neck and enjoying his warmth.
Sara sighs and kisses his cheek. “I’m so tired, I can sleep for days.”
Leonard chuckled and ran his hand through her hair. “What did Barry and the nerds make you do today?”
“We trained. I kicked their ass,” Sara replied. “Then, they introduced me to a group of women who’d like to be trained thrice a week. I’ve always liked the idea of teaching self-defense classes and it’s finally happening.. But god, I am so tired.”
His warm hands slid inside Sara’s shirt, providing warmth on her back she needs so much.
“Mmm,” he responded, “and let me guess, you’re still up for rounds tonight?”
“With the new baddie around, yes,” Sara answered. “Hey, not that I don’t like seeing you here because I miss you so much and I want to go out on a date, but aren’t you supposed to be at your office?”
“I decided to work from home this morning, but Mick and I will be heading out to the location later tonight. How about tomorrow? Do you have plans tomorrow?”
With their busy jobs, they only get a few hours a day to really be with each other and talk. And Sara feels a little guilty being away most of the day, especially with Leonard trying to work at home some days to see her more. And this little moment, although short, has to be the highlight of her week so far.
"You know I don’t have plans tomorrow, Len,” she scooted in closer, kissing his jaw. “My Saturdays are always blocked. How about you? Any plans?”
“Saturdays are Sara Days,” Len whispered. “Non-negotiable.”
With that, Sara closed the distance between them and kissed him like how she’s been wanting to kiss him all day. Leonard pulled her in closer, nipping her lips and making her giggle.
“Thank you very much for that lovely kiss, Mr. Snart. I’m gonna go nap now,” Sara said with a sigh. “Wake me up before you go, alright?”
“I will,” Leonard promised, kissing her hair one last time.
4:30PM
“Boss, I already told you, I’d be there on time at exactly 6PM and not a minute more,” Mick said, gruff as usual.
Leonard chuckled. “Can you and the team handle the test by yourselves? You know the drill, right?”
“Yeah, of course. Been telling you to take a break. But why can’t you come?”
“Sara,” he said, hoping his one word response would be been enough.
“I thought Sara Days are Saturdays? It’s only Friday.”
Snart sighed, “Yeah, I know. I just…”
“Missed her?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright,” Mick responded. “Captain deserves the rest too. And Snart?”
“I’m assuming you’re about to drop an important piece of wisdom,” Leonard drawled.
“You love her so much, don’t you?”
“Pretty obvious, isn’t it?”
6:30PM
Sara woke up slowly, still feeling the weight of another person’s arm around her. And after a while she realizes that Leonard is asleep. She looked at the alarm clock on their bedside table and panicked upon seeing the time.
“Len!” Sara said, shaking the man. “You’re late! We’re late!”
A groan was his only response.
“Babe, come on,” she tried pulling him up but he pulls her back to bed.
Leonard hugs her tighter, making her laugh and give in.
“Leonard…”
She felt a kiss on her temple.
“I already called Allen and told them you’re unavailable tonight.”
Sara stared with wide-eyes. “And your job?”
His smirk still so damn sexy. “Mick can handle it.”
“Which means…?” Sara bites her lips and runs her hand behind his head.
Leonard ducked and slowly inches in. “Sara Day just got here early.”
It took us about half a year to finish this story and I can’t believe it’s over *sobbing*. Thank you all for your patience and endless support, but most of all I want to thank my incredible friend @flabbergabst, who had so many ideas and gave me giant portion of inspiration to create illustrations for ATW <3
It was absolutely brilliant adventure with our favourite charactes (who by the way have to be an endgame xD). I’m proud of both of us, so now, enjoy
The entire STAR Labs was quiet. Everybody off to their devices, patching each other up or waiting for Caitlyn to attend to them. A metahuman decided that Thanksgiving was a good time for him to attack citizens having dinner with their families. It was a good thing that most of the Legends were currently in town to see their families. They aided Team Flash without any doubt and when all was done, it was them that didn’t get the chance to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Not until Cisco stood up from where he was sitting to grab a few bottles of wine to place it on the console.
“I know this night sucked,” Cisco started, “but I’m thankful that I’m alive and I’m thankful that I’m with all of you.” He uncapped the bottle and took a sip.
Ray, unable to stop himself, stood up and had Cisco hand him the bottle. “I’m thankful for another chance to see you all, despite the fact that we always run across trouble.”
And one by one, both heroes from the Legends and from Team Flash shared the bottles of wine and said their thanks one by one. All are thankful for their lives. All are thankful for being with each other.
On one side of the STAR Labs, far in the corner, were Sara and Snart. It was supposed to be their first Thanksgiving dinner officially together, but as all things go, plans didn’t go well. Not that they minded. Everybody was too tired to take notice that the two were huddled close, cradling sore limbs. Snart was leaning on the wall and was wearing his big old parka, with Sara leaning on his chest. Both wrapped around the ridiculous coat. Leonard has his arms wrapped around her waist, not even minding whether anyone could see or not.
He’s been listening to every hero’s thanksgiving speech while Sara lays peacefully on him. He was about to doze off too when he heard Sara murmur something.
“What was that?” he asked, leaning a little closer to hear her better.
Sara made an effort to turn her head sideways to be able to repeat to him what she said and for him to heat her clearly.
“I said,” she began, “I’m thankful for you, Len.”
If it was ever possible to pull Sara in tighter, he did, kissing her temple. “Me, too, Sara.”
“I love you. You’re warm,” she whispered, the fatigue obvious from her voice.
He’ll tell her he loves her too tomorrow, when she’s a hundred percent awake. For now, he keeps her safe and warm. And he’s thankful that she’s with him.
Captain Canary Week Day 1 Entry: Pre-relationship.
Better late than never, amirite?
“You couldn’t take your eyes off of him,” Sara heard Iris say from where the Waverider captain was leaning. “Still couldn’t believe he’s alive and as snarky as ever?”
Sara turned her head to face her friend. She gave Iris a small smirk, then looked at the group of people at the other side of the room.
“I’m just glad we have our resident crook back,” Sara replied. “I have to admit, being captain is a lot easier with him on the ship. Someone who could argue with my decisions better than anyone else makes missions easier. Which ultimately makes life easier.”
Iris walks closer towards her friend. The two became closer when the Legends stayed in Central City for a month after their discovery of Snart’s survival. They helped clean the city, as well as Star City, and Sara spent her free time training Iris. They exchanged stories during training, sometimes while spending the night drinking. When the Legends left, Iris and the rest of Team Flash had to wait three months for them to visit again and by then, half a year has already passed for the time-travelling heroes.
“So,” Iris started, “have you planned on telling Snart about your little crush on him or should I do it for you?”
Sara rolled her eyes and faced her friend. “I don’t have a crush on him. And ‘crush’ is such a juvenile term, Iris.”
“’Crush’ is juvenile, huh? What, you love him now?”
To be fair, Iris was half-joking when she said that. But as she looked at Sara’s face, she saw the same expression she wore whenever Barry goes out in his suit, off to battle whoever metahuman decided to ruin their evening. It was a mixture of so much affection and so much fear.
With the lack of response from Sara, Iris decided it’s better to pull the woman in for a long, warm hug. She then felt the blonde pull her even closer, hanging onto her for strength—for anything.
“I do,” Sara replied, her voice muffled on the other woman’s shoulder.
“Then go tell him,” her friend urged, breaking away from the hug.
Sara once again looked at Leonard from across the room. Now he’s looking at her, too. He must’ve seen the hug between the two women because there’s this concerned look on his face, just like the ones he used to flash her after dangerous missions. Similar to the one he had when Sara got sent to the Medbay that one time after being shot on the abdomen a couple of missions back.
She nodded at him and smirked, then pausing to face Iris again. “Iris West-Allen, the time is now.”
Before she could even go towards him, Len’s already walking in her direction. She felt Iris squeeze her hand before letting it go, but the warm presence told Sara she hasn’t left her side.
“Allen over there,” Leonard started, then nodding towards Barry’s direction,” dared me to say one single truth since I have been messing around with their team the whole time we’ve been here.”
Sara looked at Barry who just gave two thumbs up, but not at her, but to Iris behind her. Oh, damn this couple.
“One truth?” Sara asked.
The man before her nodded. Sara’s right eyebrow was raised, waiting for whatever Snart has to say and wondering if whatever truth that will be could help her or now.
“You, Sara,” Leonard started, “are the most wonderful woman I have ever met in my entire life. And I’ve been alive for a long while so that’s saying something.”
Sara could’ve sworn her heart skipped a beat. The way Leonard’s eyes stared into her like she’s the only bright thing in the room. She knows, because she’s sure she looks at him just the same.
But he doesn’t seem to be finished.
“But that’s not the truth I was planning on telling you because you probably know that already,” he said. “The truth is, I’ve been meaning to ask you out for a drink.”
Sara smiled and looked down, afraid to let Len see her blushing. “What’s been stopping you from asking?”
He actually chuckled at her question. “It’s not like we have a lot of free time from our day jobs, do we?”
Sara looked at Iris, who has been giggling like a teenager behind her, and winked.
Captain Canary Week Day 2 Entry: Established Relationship
Another late one, but is anyone complaining?
It was past-dinner time when Sara arrived on their apartment. She visited her mother earlier for a quick coffee, without knowing that Dinah planned an entire mother-daughter day for both of them. They had brunch, went to the spa, had a full-body massage, and dinner. She had to text Len that she’d be missing their dinner together and will probably be home after 7pm.
She opened the door, which she found unsurprisingly unlocked and proceeded to enter. With the living room and dining area empty, her next guess was the bedroom. But then, she heard the water running from the kitchen.
“I cooked,” Leonard said with his back towards her. “You should be the one washing the dishes, you know?”
Sara hugged Len from behind, noting his scent, which she loves dearly. “I missed you.”
“I’m sure you did. Now, care to help with these?” Len replied, raising a plate.
Sara shook her head. “We have a dishwasher for a reason, Len.”
“Washing these by hand is relaxing,” he replied as he continued washing the suds off the plates. “Especially since you failed to wash the dished since dinner last night. I love it when these bad boys pile up and I had to spend my wonderful evening elbow-deep in your unwashed dishes.”
Oh, this sarcastic ass. Sara bit his bicep, causing Len to groan, pretending to be hurt by it.
“I’ll make it up to you,” she responded, grabbing Leonard’s shoulders so he’s facing her. “We went to the spa today and had a body massage, so you deserve some pampering, too.”
“Oh, I better,” Len replied, leaning down to place a chaste kiss on her waiting lips, soft and swift. He then turned away just as fast and proceeded to finish the washing of dishes.
Sara stepped back, frustrated with the kiss she got. “That’s it? Come on, Len. That’s all I get?”
Len opened the faucet, blocking Sara’s words. The smirk on his face all set. “Later, right?”
Sara just shook her head, ultimately deciding to step away from the man. Later, it is.
Once she opened the door to their bedroom, Sara received a text from Dinah. Opening it quickly, it read:
I enjoyed spending the day with you, sweetie. Couldn’t tell you earlier ‘cause it was supposed to be a secret, but Leonard planned the day for us from brunch to dinner. He told me you’ve been saving the city non-stop and thought you deserve a break and that we deserved some quality bonding time together. Thank him for me? Love you both. Stay safe always, xMom
Sara’s heart swelled and she can feel her cheeks getting warm. Immediately, she ran towards the kitchen, where Leonard had just finished his task.
“Hey Snart. I love you, you enormous sarcastic pain in the ass.”
Captain canary, mission in 1998. Sara goes to a bar for recon and meets..... *drumroll please* ...a 26 year old Leonard Snart who does not hesitate to flirt with a beautiful woman
Established Relationship!Captain Canary is too tempting not to put it here. I’m sorry!
Not Cheating When It’sYou
“I’m in and I’ve got eyes on Salle,” Sara casually said, walking towards the bar.
It was 1998 and the team was on a mission to locate thewarehouse housing smuggled sports cars. There were three masterminds to theillegal operations and Mick and Leonard already took care of the first one. Thesecond businessman, Joseph Salle, had with him a maroon notebook containing allthe information containing detailed records of the shipments of the cars andthe carriers. Gideon deemed it important to stop these greedy moguls because ifthe operation weren’t stopped by year 2000, the stock exchange will crashleading to economic regression.
Sara offered to lift the notebook off of Salle mainlybecause she was challenged by her crook boyfriend and his equally morallyambiguous bestfriend. Being the Captain of the ship, she wouldn’t want her egobruised, so she accepted. Included in making the decision of doing it herselfwas the thrill of it. It was an easy job and she could need a little moraleboost after a complicated last mission. And Leonard promised her a gift if shecould impress him. She’d never pass an opportunity like that.
The whole team was watching through the hidden cameraconcealed in the small stone of Sara’s choker. Sara didn’t even need to lift afinger to get Salle to notice her. She was seating in the seat in the barclosest to the corner. Her purse (which housed three knives, five throwingstars, and, oh, a lipstick) was on the table and she ordered a scotch. Her body-tightroyal dress invited the mogul for her. Sooner than she expected, Salle slidbeside her, laying a hand on her shoulder.
“Pretty girls deserve to be given drinks,” the short, balding man said.
“Careful, assassin,”Sara heard Leonard say through her comm.; she swiveled her chair and facedSalle. She placed both her hands on the man’s shoulder and slid it to his side, her fingers touching the notebook from the pocket of his coat.
“That’s so nice of you,” she said. Once her pointer andmiddle finger trapped the thin notebook, she dropped her hand, casuallysqueezing it on her ankles. “But you’re not my type.”
Joseph Salle, not used to people saying no to him, was aboutto insist, when a tall man, behind him with an all too familiar voice interruptedhim. “When a lady said no,” he began, “then maybe you should turn away andrespect that.”
Salle was about to react but he turned back and saw the manglaring at him with the coldest, scariest eyes. The smaller man immediatelyrushed away.
Sara then saw the man, and gasped. All she heard from hercomms was Mick and some of them laughing, and Leonard swearing like a sailor.
She smirked and swiveled her chair again to face the bar andwhispered loud enough for the team to hear. “And the night just got better.”
The man, younger Leonard, sat beside her but didn’t talk toher yet, trying to sense whatever he can from the beautiful lady beside him.
Sara was trying hard too—from not looking at the youngerversion of her beau, and from not laughing at the exchanges of her crew thatshe can hear from her comms.
“New dare, Blondie,”Mick said, still laughing. “Kiss youngLenny.”
“No, you’re not daringher to cheat on me,” Leonard sternly replied, earning a laugh from the menof the team.
Wally interrupted. “Butis it really cheating? It’s still you she’s going to kiss. Only a younger you.”
“Point,” Sara whispered, hiding the smirk on her face.
Leonard groaned in response. “No. You got the notebook. Just leave.”
“Or test late 20sSnart’s flirting game,” Nate replied.
“Killjoy,” Ray teased.
Mick came close to the console. “Thumbs up if you accept the dare, Blondie. We have visuals.”
Sara did exactly that, then flipping her hair a little, earning the attention of young Len.
“So,” he drawled, his voice obviously lacking the grit sheloves, “would you accept if I buy you a drink?”
“Okay, not that good astart,” Zari said.
The blonde turned her head sideways, as if considering. “IfI declined his offer, what do you think you have to make me accept yours?”
“I know how to take no for an answer,” he immediatelyanswered, which made Sara’s eyebrow rise. “If you decline, I’ll nod and leaveyou be.”
Satisfied with his answer, she nodded. “Alright, Mister…”
“Leonard. Or Leo,” he offered.
“Then where did ‘Len’come from?” Amaya asked.
“Only heard it fromBlondie. Boss was always Leo.” Mick answered.
“And you?” young Leo asked, sliding another glass towardsher. “I’m guessing you won’t like it if I keep calling you beautiful.”
“Alright, he’sactually got game,” Zari commented.
“All of you shut up,”Len complained.
Sara laughed, mostly because of the frustration in herLeonard’s voice. But the Leonard in front of her thought it was because of hisline. “Sa—Savannah,” she ultimately answered. “You don’t look like someone who’snamed Leo.”
Young Len raised an eyebrow. “And what do I look like?”
“You know what to say,”Leonard muttered, having given up with convincing her not to continue the dare.
Sara held the glass close to her lips. “Really, really, handsome.”
Leo’s smiling, pulling his chair closer. When Sara didn’t moveback, he deemed his motion okay.
“What brought a gem like you to a place filled with crooks andcigars and stale beers?”
She can’t help but look at his face, noting what wasdifferent. His eyes were obviously younger—because it didn’t carry the soul ithas now. That’s what distinguishes her Leonard.
“I’m a gambler,” Sara replied. “I just won tonight. But Ifeel like the win isn’t enough.”
Leo took a drink, downing a glass in one go. “Anything I canhelp you with? I’m quite talented in many fields, pleasure or otherwise.”
“Snart, I think babyyou wants to sleep with Sara,” Nate interjected.
Leonard didn’t comment. Neither did Mick.
“I catch your drift, Leo,” Sara replied with a smirk. But toyoung Len’s surprise, she stood up, picked up the notebook she kept between herlegs and the purse on the bar. “And like I said, you are very, very handsome. But I have someone to come home to.”
Young Leo, true to his word, just nodded in understanding.Still, Sara laid a hand on his shoulder and kissed the man’s cheek. “I think ‘Len’suits you more than ‘Leo’. But that’s just me.”
She left with a smirk, walking away with a sway on her hips.Young Len checked her out as she walked. “Hm. Len,” he said, and ordered abeer.
“I’m outside,” Sara said to remind her team. “Just a coupleof minutes till I get to the jumpship. I’ll be in the ship twenty minutes max.”
“Got it, Sara,” Ray replied in confirmation that the teamgot her message.
“And Leonard?” Sara asked.
“Yeah?” the man in question, whose chest felt lighter than afew minutes ago, answered.
“You better be naked inour bed the moment I open the door to our room.”
Hii so i love avalance a l o t but captain canary will always own my soul so i was wondering if you could maybe rewrite some parts of 3x15 with captain canary instead (ive been thinking about this for a few hours and boy it hurts) anyways thank you v much either way and in other news youre litterally my fav fic writer ever bye
Author’s Note: Ihaven’t watched an episode of Season 3, only clips from YouTube, but I’m up forthis prompt. I have to apologize if I failed to thread the story completelybased from the episode. Also, this is an homage to @firesoulstuff ’s comment on a post aboutLeonard accepting that Sara is damaged, after everything she’s been through—andhe gets that. There is nothing there is to fix because that’s what Sara is. Thanksfor the prompt. And thanks most especially to @ranger-of-estel for looking over this for me!
Death and Devotion
She’s walking in the halls of the Waverider, the softhumming of the ship filled her ears. She was wondering where the team is andupon looking for them, she felt motion behind her. It was a little girl inyellow, running to get to the galley. The kid eventually stopped and turned toher. The little girl spoke, her voice unfamiliar but still sent a chill downher spine. “You thought I forgot about you?”
Sara gasped, catching the air that she felt left her lungs. Before she could bolt out the bed, Leonard’s hand covered her own, keeping themclose to her chest. Her heart was beating fast and it distracted her so muchthat she didn’t notice him move closer to her. “Nightmare again?”
She nodded, settling down again on his chest, with his leftarm wrapping her and his right settled comfortable on Sara’s waist. Leonardnoticed Sara trying to even out her breathing, obviously trying to sleep again.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked, raising his lefthand to soothe her arm.
Sara knows she can always say she’s fine and that it’snothing and he won’t force her to reveal what happened.. But the two of themhave been through a lot together that she knows she could trust him withwhatever it was. So she told him about her dream nightmare. About thelittle girl. About who she thinks the kid was. About how she hurt the kid. Lenjust listened. Slightly pulling her closer to him if her voice starts crackinga little. After her tale, she faced him. “I killed her father. Murder in cold blood. And she saw that. Len, she wasn’t supposed to see something like that.”
“I know,” Leonard interrupted, “but you’ve paid for that. That’snot you anymore, remember?”
Sara sighed, wanting to believe him but can’t. So Len spokeagain. “Hey. You are a strong, brave woman and I know you can fight your owndemons. You have been doing so for the longest time. But I’m more than willingto help kick some of those demons’ asses.”
Sara chuckled, digging her head on his armpit, making himlaugh himself. It took another minute before Sara raised her head and kissedhim softly, teasing him a little by softly biting his lower lip. “Thank you,”she said once they broke away from the kiss.
Len smirked and replied. “As long as you’re not dreaming ofsomebody else.”
Sara bit her lower lips, earning a confused look from theman beside her. “Well,” she started, “there was this one time…”
He groaned and pulled away from her but Sara pulled him backin. “I’m kidding!” Sara teased, only to be responded by a raised eyebrow fromSnart. She then continued, “It happened twice.”
“Great,” he groaned.
“They were just people with no faces,” Sara defendedherself. “And that happened before I had a boyfriend,” she continued, using herhand to take Len’s jaw so he could face her.
Len raised his head and with a smirk, he asked, “You callingme your boyfriend now?”
They’ve been without labels for a long time. Not that theyneeded one. They know how much the other means to them and labels seemedunnecessary. But, well, it wouldn’t hurt to have one, right?
“Maybe?” Sara answered. “I mean, why not? There’s no reasonnot to.”
The man’s eyes carried the smile. “And what will the peoplein your dreams say?”
Sara sat up a little, her blue eyes bright and wide awakenow. “Well, what can they say? They’re no Leonard Snart, robber of ATMs!”
She then pulled her blanket overthem as she straddles him, kissing his neck to his chest. And Leonard was aboutto reciprocate when the ship’s trusted AI chimed in.
“Sorry to interrupt, Captain, butwe need you in the bridge.”
Sara groaned aloud, obviouslyirritated. Leonard just chuckled. “Let’s go, Captain. Time to save history. Ormess it up. Either way, get dressed.”
—
When they got to the bridge, Sara’smood sort of dropped from the light in her eyes when they were in their room.
She proceeded to the control panelsof the ship, letting the rest of the team including Gideon, discuss theanachronisms or the time cracks all over history.
“What happens if we don’t repairhistory?” Wally asked, face frowning at all the complications his teammatesdiscussed.
Ray and Nate answered with delight, making Len and Sara look at each other and roll their eyes.
Their psychic connection, as Jaxused to call it, was interrupted by a question from their newest teammate. “So,worse than flashpoint?”
“Allen did turn a baby girl into ababy boy,” Leonard replied, “but yes. Worse.”
With a sigh, Sara pushed herselfoff of the control panels to proceed to the center console, pairing the team upand giving them tasks to accomplish with the goals of lessening the time cracksthat frustratingly keeps on popping up like daisies.
While Sara was being a Captain, Lenwas still leaning at the back of one jumpseat, looking at her intently. Therewas a certain weight in her eyes, and he was then reminded of how they woke upearlier. Her nightmares lessened when they got together, but since Mallus cameto the scene, it kept coming back and by now it’s hard to pretend that he’s notworried. He is familiar with nightmares himself and how much energy and powerit takes off of a person. No matter how strong they are.
“And Len and I will be picking upEinstein from the Ice Age,” Sara ordered.
The team agreed and paired upimmediately, but their eyes were still on her. Remembering their talk of hersend-offs a few days ago, she rolled her eyes and dropped her head. “Alright, that’s it. No snazzy send-off. Mama’s got a headache.”
The team was more understandingthan usual, nodding and walking away one by one.
“Even when you don’t try, you stillgot it,” Nate said, patting their Captain’s back.
Zari walked by Leonard, nudging theman. “You know what to do, dad.”
Snart smirked at Zari and noddedbefore walking towards Sara. Once everybody was away, Len pulled her for aside-hug, kissing her temples. “Want to sit this one down?”
The blonde shook her head. “I’m notsending you off without back-up,” she said. “It’s alright.
Things weren’t alright.
—
Sara was seduced by the DeathTotem. It engulfed her, resulting to her hurting the team. They knew it wasn’ther but they continued to plead with her, hoping to get the real Sara back. ButSnart knew better. He saw the damage it brought to the crew and no matter howbadly he wants to just talk to her and tell her to stop. But he knows it willfall on deaf ears. With Zari’s suggestion of using the jumpship, Len heeded forConstantine’s help to bring Sara back. The demonologist managed to help Saradeal with the presence of Mallus three weeks ago and he hoped that the Britcould help again. Constantine indeed helped him, and agreed to come to theWaverider. Once on the ship, they found Sara, half out of herself. It was hard, seeing Mallus use Sara as a vessel for a younger girl asking John to sacrificeSara to bring the said kid back—a life for a life. And John Constantine foundit hard to say no to that.
All that chaos led up to thismoment. With Sara lying on the floor of her very own ship. Pale and still as acorpse. Her crew present as witnesses. Leonard leaned down beside her and tookoff the Death totem from her neck. He held her hand, squeezing it and hestarted talking to her.
“Come on, assassin,” Leonard said, holding her hand. “You’re still there, I know you are.”
The woman is still unresponsive.Len felt his heart jump to his throat. “You are the strongest person I know. You’ve changed this team. You’ve changed us all. You’ve changed me. For thebetter. That’s on you. Hang on to that, Sara. Remember that.”
Still, nothing. He can hear Amaya’sshallow breaths, but chose not to look at her. Because if he saw her crying, hemight lose it, too.
“I thought we’re not dying on eachother again,” Leonard continued talking to her, holding her hand to his lips.“You promised me, remember? In the fortress of our room, with our sheets as ourwitness. Right? Come on. We need you, assassin. I need you.”
He started shaking Sara, gently atfirst. But her lack of response frustrated him. Leonard then glared atConstantine who’s been standing beside Mick. “Do something!” he yelled at him.“Why aren’t you doing anything!”
He was too exhausted aftereverything. None of these were supposed to happen. He never let go of her. Lenbrought her close to him, her head close to his chest. His lips on her temples, whispering pleas. “Come back to me. Come back to me; come on, please. Sara, please.”
Leonard heard a faint gasp and whenhe pulled away, Sara’s eyes were wide open, and when Len lets go of her, shelevitated, then swiftly snapped back. Her eyes back to blue, her hair turnedback to gold.
She dropped foot-first to theground, shook her head and upon seeing Leonard, threw herself over him, hugginghim tight. “Don’t ever tell me again you’re not a hero.”
—
Leonard was already sitting on thebed of their room when Sara entered. She gave him a small smile and sat besidehim. “I have to tell you what happened.”
Leonard nodded and faced Sara. “Iheard the totem call me,” she began. “I didn’t know how that happened. It wasunlike the Spear of Destiny. This one was…drawing me in. I opened the box and Isaw…”
“Sara, you don’t need to…” Lenstarted. But Sara shook her head. “You need to know.”
So she continued. “I saw myself. Inthe Canary suit. What I was when I died. She asked me, how come you’re aliveand Laurel’s still dead. She told me I could bring her back to me.”
Leonard looked down, knowing thatthat’s something Sara would find difficult to say no to. His mind was away butit was brought back by her hands on his.
“Leonard, listen,” she said, voiceslightly shaking. “It’s in me. I am death, Leonard, and I want to say that thatpart of me left me but I’d be lying. It’s always there. It never left.” Tearswere already threatening to spill from her eyes and it took so much strength totear her body away from Leonard.
He ignored the lack of contact andresponded to her instead. “I know, Sara. People like you and me will alwayshave this darkness in us that we can’t just forget or set aside.” He held herhand again, and he felt her tense. Len lightened his hold on her but keptspeaking. “You shouldn’t feel like that’s your fault. This isn’t your fault.i’ve embraced everything that you were, and everything that you are. Nothing’sgoing to change that.”
Sara is crying and he can’t takeit. She squeezed his hand once before standing up, taking a few steps away fromthe bed. “I know that, Len. And you are incredible. You have made me so, sohappy. More than I deserve. Len, this?” she said, motioning between them, “Idon’t deserve this. I don’t deserve you.”
Leonard scoffed and stood up too.“Bullshit,” he said. “Bullshit! I know what you’re trying to do, Sara. And I’mnot accepting it. If you tell me you don’t want me anymore, that’s a differentstory. I’d walk away and respect that. But you’re not getting rid of me justbecause you think happiness isn’t for you. I’m stubborn, Sara. You of allpeople know that. I’m a stubborn asshole and I’m not leaving.”
Sara brought her hand to his jaw.“You deserve so much better.”
He laid his own hand on top ofhers. “With all the shit the universe gave me, well, damn right I do. That’swhy I deserve you. That’s why I’m still here. Who cares about what we deserve? We lived our whole lives trying to survive. Why can’t we live our lives nowchasing what makes us happy? And you, Sara, make me so damn happy.”
Sara looked at him, seeing the acceptance. The sincerity. And the love. It’s there, blatant and obvious without him needing to say thewords. So much love in his eyes that it makes her cry.
She places both her hands on both sides of his face andtiptoed to kiss him, softly. Afraid to cause him another pain.
The kiss ended but Leonard kept their foreheads together.“We’re in this together, alright?”
She nodded. She loves him; that she knows for sure. Tellinghim that would be her next personal mission. But it’s been a long day andthey’re both tired, so when Leonard lifted her up and laid her to the bed, shedidn’t complain and just rested. Here’s to hoping that tomorrow would be abetter day.
Captain canary. What would have happened if Snart had been on the mission in Nanda Parbat in 1960 to get Sara back from the league
Thank you for this prompt!!
For me topull this prompt off, let’s imagine that the Chronos arc wasn’t in this episodejust to put Leonard in the Waverider when they figured out that Sara’s in NandaParbat.
Reminder
“What’s the one place in 1958 she already called home?”
“The League of Assassins.”
Leonard tried his hardest not to show his concern. Sara hasbeen the only person in the ship who didn’t look at him like a criminal is theonly thing that he is. And she has thanked him privately about how he talkedher down in Russia. And it was then that he realized that he has made it hismission to prove to this badass assassin that she is not the monster that shethinks she is.
His mind was away as the group discuss how to locate Sara.
Gideon then chimed in. “There is a mention of a Ta-eral-Sahfer.”
“That’s Sara’s League of Assassins name,” Leonard blurtedout, to the group’s surprise.
Rip just raised an eyebrow then shook his head. “Right,” hesaid. “According to the Shadow Record, she joined the League in 1958.”
Len proceeded to sit on the jumpseat he usually occupies. Heclosed his eyes, trying not to imagine how the past two years have been for his…friend.
“Are we going or what?” the agitation in his voice wasn’t missedby the crew.
“Gideon,” Rip ordered, “chart a course for Nanda Parbat.”
They infiltrated Nanda Parbat. It was easier than whatLeonard expected, given that it is supposedly guarded by assassins. Seemed likenone of these black-clad fighters were up to Sara’s caliber.
Rip decided that he was the best person to look for Sara. Itwould’ve been more effective it Kendra were to do it. Or him.
The next time they saw their captain, Sara was behind him andthey were being surrounded by assassins.
“Sara, what the hell?” Jax said, frustrated by how his friendeasily gave them up to the assassins.
She had a straight face, looking at all of them then stoppingat Leonard. He noticed her jaw clench. “You shouldn’t have come here.”
Snart didn’t drop the gaze and neither did she.
It was Jax who voiced out. “Yeah, we’re starting to get that.”
“We came here to rescue you,” Ray said, still as perky asever.
Sara’s fierce blue eyes left Snart’s and moved to Ray. “I don’tneed to be rescued. I’ve found peace here.”
“Peace with the League of Assassins?” Leonard said andscoffed. “You’re not a killer anymore. You’re not Ta-er al-Sahfer. Not anymore. You’re better than this.”
“And you’ll rot in here.”
That was Sara’s only reply. And before they know it, theywere being pulled and brought into dungeons and were tied by chains.
The team was discussing something about time-drift. That whensomeone spends too long in a timeline alien to them, they lose themselves. Andhe’s known enough from their card games and late night conversations to saythat Sara is trying to be the best version of herself. And he wouldn’t want tolose that.
Len’s eyes could’ve fallen from how much he’s been rollinghis eyes hearing the conversations of the team. Then their mighty captainwanted to talk to the Demon himself. Because of course that’s how the Legendsroll.
Their hands were still in shackles as they faced Ra’s alGhul. Sara was also there, not bothering to look at them.
And Rip-freaking-Hunter demanded a trial by combat to getSara back in the team.
“Do we have an accord?” Rip asked Ra’s al Ghul, who had asmall smile on his face.
The assassin nodded. “May victory be yours.”
Oh. He wasn’t the one to fight Rip.
“You see,” Ra’s replied, “I may choose any champion I wish,as may you.”
He chose Sara and she nodded in acceptance, eyes still notgracing the people she once called part of her team.
Rip looked at the line-up of Legends chained together, assessing who he’d choose as his champion.
“I’ll do it,” Leonard immediately offered.
Ray instantaneously complained. “You haven’t had very muchexperience in swordsmanship, Snart!”
Sara was now looking at him. Her face unreadable from anyemotion.
Rip then nodded at Leonard. “I choose Mr. Snart as mychampion.”
One assassin guarding them removed the chains restrainingLeonard. The crook looked at Ra’s al Ghul, who nodded towards the rack ofweapons on the wall. Sara approached the other rack on her side of the room, choosing two Chinese daos, swirling it like they’re nothing. Leonard looked athis options and reached out to a katana. A weapon he’s seen hanging on Sara’swall in her quarters.
As soon as the weapon’s on his hand, Sara marched towardshim, swinging her dao. All he heard were metals clashing and audible gasps fromthe team. Leonard was lucky. He was lucky that he spars with Sara. He was luckythat he’s seen her in action. And he’s lucky that Sara is holding back. Becauseof that, he knows there’s a crack in her former self that he can penetrate.
“You have to stop this,” Kendra begged Rip. “She’s gonna killhim!”
Rip looked at the two fighters. “Sara and Leonard have hadeach other’s backs from the beginning. He reminded Sara of her humanity once.He can do it again.”
Jax, worried that Leonard might not hold for so long, asked: “Beforeor after Sara kills him?”
“Sara,” he said, avoiding an extremely sharp sword that almostreached him. “Ta-el al-Sahfer. Or whatever you call yourself. I know you don’t wantto kill me.”
She just replied by gritting her teeth and growling as shestrikes. “Want is irrelevant,” she said coldly. “I serve Ra’s al Ghul.”
“You’re saying you don’t want a game of cards?” Leonard keptasking. “You don’t want a cold beer?”
He saw the slight pain in her eyes and in under ten seconds,Leonard felt a stinging pain on his right side. “Argh!”
She was about to strike again when Leonard dove under Sara’s outstretchedleft arm to avoid her. “Remember that move?” he said, trying to will the painaway. “You taught it to me.”
“Your teacher was excellent,” she replied, keeping up withwherever his body went.
Leonard dropped the katana to move towards the weapon rackand grabbed a weapon similar to hers. “She is,” he said.
From thinking of something to say to her, she bested Leonardwhich ended with him on the floor and on top of him, using her knees to preventthe man from getting up.
Kendra was screaming now and so was Jax. Asking her to letLeonard go.
“Sara,” Leonard said, feeling his blood drip from the woundon his side. “You are not a murderer or an assassin.”
She was murmuring something in Arabic that Leonard didn’t understand. He didn’t want to think that Sara was saying a little prayer before she killshim. So he gave it another shot. “You’re the White Canary! Remember that! Ahero in the light. Trying her best, for better or for worse. That’s you, Sara. And you have to remember that!”
It was supposed to be the final blow. But her blade hit thefloor instead of his face. Len didn’t even realize his eyes were closed. Andwhen he opened them, he saw Sara—the Sara he knows and cares for—eyes shiningwith unshed tears.
A soft whisper escaped her lips. “Len, I’m sorry.”
She sagged onto his body, clutching his hand as her ownpushed into his bloody right side. They don’t know how long it was, but soonRip was there, helping them up.
Ra’s al Ghul released Sara and the team. The walk to the shipwas slow, considering the weight of what happened earlier. And for Leonard, itwas the amateur stitch he got in the fortress.
The team went ahead, leaving Sara and Leonard behind.
“I thought you were dead,” Sara softly said, assistingLeonard from walking.
Len scoffed. “This team is hard to kill.”
“I don’t think so,” Sara replied, her tone lighter than whenthey found her. “I could’ve killed you if I wanted to.”
He nodded, remembering her eyes during their swordfight. “Butyou didn’t,” he said. “Don’t tell me my charmed worked under all your assassintraining.”
She laughed. And Leonard guessed that it was her firstgenuine laughter in maybe two years. “Yeah, Snart. I just thought you were toohandsome to kill.”
Two years is impossible to bring back.
But bringing Sara back seems achievable. And Snart will makeit his personal mission to remind her of who she was and where she was headingbefore being left behind.
