[21 - PAS Rudiments #21] Flam Accent (BPM=60)
lRLR rLRL
Drum rudiments are broken into four categories - Rolls, Diddles, Flams & Drags. There are a total of forty rudiments recognized by the "International Percussive Arts Society". Twenty six of those forty are included in the original "Standard American Drum Rudiments". Rudiments have always been an important part of my practice routine. I often create etudes (short compositions) as a way of mixing up different things that I am practicing and integrating them into my arsenal of techniques, licks etc. My most recent etude is focused on "Flams". I begin with a flam paradiddle on the high hat and bells along with a kick pattern. I then turn it into an uptempo rock groove with right and left "flam" fills. Next comes "Flam Tap" fills. I change groove to a half time feel and apply "flamacue" fills. I go back to a "flam paradiddle" but now it is between the ride and hat. I use a "flam accent" for triplet fills and then double it up (16th note triplets) at the very end. This piece contains a total of five out of the eleven recognized flam rudiments.
