"I  have  grown  rather  comfortable."  She  held  necklace  between  two  hands,  watching  the  pendant  slide  back  and  forth  on  the  chain,  the  gem  catching  the  light  every  now  and  then,  and  it  was  entertainment  enough  for  Gysella.  Day  by  day,  she  grew  more  comfortable,  shedding  the  Ironborn  desire  to  fight  and  bleed,  and  replacing  it  with  sharp  words  and  hidden  messages  instead.  There  was  little  for  her  to  do  now,  no  enemy  to  smite,  no  one  to  antagonise,  no  one  deserving  of  her  ire,  and  that  in  itself  was  a  rarity,  so  she  allowed  herself  the  comfort  of  her  chair,  of  her  simple  entertainments,  of  her  life.  "Of  course,  I  would  not  be  opposed  to  company,  my  liege,  if  you  wished  to  join  me."

"Liege  Naerys.  I  was  disappointed,  to  see  you  were  not  on  my  dance  card.  Though,  I  suppose  that  is  the  point  of  all  this,  to  separate  us  from  the  groups  we  have  cultivated.  What  of  you,  anyone  you  know  on  your  card?  Perhaps...  A  northerner?"  He  hadn't  forgotten  the  first  day  of  the  joust,  watching  them  grant  favour,  though  in  his  defeat  there  had  been  little  time  for  him  to  chase  down  friend  and  find  out  every  detail.  He  raised  an  eyebrow,  arms  crossed  over  his  chest,  and  waited  for  any  scrap  of  information  they  would  deign  to  share  with  him.  He  was  not  owed  it  in  any  case,  but  he  was  nothing  if  not  curious.  "Or  have  they  separated  not  only  the  married  couples,  but  those  who  granted  favours  too?"

it never dawned on him to explain , to reach back to the past he walked away from , or to spare a time of day to hear what dreadful words are tossed in the stormlands . he no longer exists only in whispers , or eyed with scrutiny when he breathes . the lord commander may no longer be a storm , but his legitimization may as well shame all the calamities that danced in his father's region . and in exchange , it made the vastness of westeros seem so small , for a few steps ahead , in the halls of highgarden is a lord who he did not wish to meet , and who he can no longer avoid . ❝ elias... ❞

"My  leige."  He  nods  his  head,  a  barely  concealed  smile  on  his  face.  Friends  were  hard  to  come  by,  with  the  weight  that  laid  across  his  shoulders.  It  was  hard  to  commit  any  time  to  something  that  did  not  directly  further  his  own  ambitions.  But  he  carved  out  time  for  them,  whether  a  letter  to  fly  across  the  Riverlands,  or  seeking  them  out  in  the  halls.  But  the  heir  to  Harrenhall  gave  at  least  a  semblance  of  peace,  the  kind  he  had  long  since  traded  for  responsibility.  Or,  more  likely,  someone  to  express  his  more  unsavoury  hobby  of  trading  secrets  and  gossip.  And  the  whispers  throughout  the  hall  had  been  extraordinarily  tantalising,  since  the  announcement.  "Your  presence  is,  as  always,  well  appreciated.  There  is  too  much  to  contain  in  a  letter,  as  you'll  soon  see."
