And by 'edge of the path', take it literally. The path ahead of the newest runner has crumbled away, leaving the path to be on top of a very, very dangerous looking fall into a valley. They should probably backtrack, unless they want to jump, of course. As for what was behind them... Hm, it appears there's a goblin, probably two feet tall at the most, holding a blunt spear.
