Memories are a funny thing. Connected in one’s heart through a chain. Yet, a bad hit to the head can shatter the links. Or maybe a person with the right powers. Or maybe something else entirely.
Not even Naminè knows what controls them, and she’s someone with power over them.
They’re so finicky. If the memory is strong enough, it’s engrained in the heart. But if the links are broken, then it’s simply….
Gone.
She’s very lucky that she was able to get around the engrained memories in Sora’s hearts by simply changing them. Putting herself in them. Replacing Riku in that one memory of Sora’s, and putting one with her instead of Sora into the Riku replica. That memory…
Sora treasures so much. It was hard, to make him forget it all. If it was up to her, she simply would’ve given him just enough curiosity to continue through the Castle. But instead, she had to place herself in his memory. She had to replace Kairi in some places, and she had to replace Riku in others.
……
She wonders when Sora would’ve told Riku he likes him. She wonders if Riku loves Sora, too.
..
No.
She knows he does.
For a Nobody that doesn’t know emotions, she knows exactly how in love Riku was—is—with Sora.
And he doesn’t remember any of this.
Naminè has also found some…interesting, memories, hidden within a different heart. Belonging to a blond boy that she doesn’t recognize. Also afflicted with amnesia, but from a source she can’t determine. Like something removed the links entirely — leaving her unable to replace them. She tries, of course she does, but it hurts Sora, so she stops trying.
After she puts him to sleep to fix his memories, she decides to try again, poking and prodding at the heart hidden within.
All she got for it was a horrid ache in her powers that won’t leave even days later.
Memories, she decides, are weird. The links making up the chain are even stranger.
