Some more art inspired by the lovely rp me and my wonderful friend @moonyeater are doing together. We have VanSo being too cute for their own good and our base design for Venitas!!
Something I've been thinking about A LOT recently is the conversation Triton has with Sora in KH1 like 'keyblade wielders suck full stop.' And he has that opinion even though we don't interact with Atlantica pre-KH1. And I know there's probably a thousand different licensing reasons for which worlds were interacted with in BBS/KUX/DR etc etc BUT his animosity paired with this idea of 'the keyblade wielders brought darkness to Quadratum' is very interesting to me. Like the keyblade wielders have simply always been a Problem for everyone else. It seems like the entire world was totally fine and dandy until the MoM started their insane crusade trying to simultaneously predict and control the past, present, and future. Certainly something that may have been discussed in Missing Link, but it seems to me like Scala Ad Calum in its entirety is just a blight upon the broader world order and it's probably a good thing for everyone that it is no longer a thriving society?
That also leads me down thought trains like where tf did Aqua and Terra even come from?? They seem like entirely fabricated children of Eraqus. We know that Eraqus and Xehanort are surviving members of the now entirely defunct Scala Ad Calum, but were Aqua and Terra orphans from the last wave of life there? Had it not been for Aqua transforming the entirety of the the Lands of Departure in Castle Oblivion, I'd just assume that we are only seeing a vague slice like all the other worlds and there was simply other people in LoD that birthed Terra and Aqua. Ventus has a fairly similar absence of past, but we at least have the 'he was a dandelion that was blasted into space so it doesn't really matter where he's been, just that Xehanort found him.'
WHERE DID TERRA AND AQUA COME FROM
Personally I ascribe to the idea that they’re from that last wave / generation of Scala. I don’t think they would be from other worlds because I don’t think Eraqus would want to risk messing up the order like that (but then again Terra and Aqua seem pretty okay with passing the power to random kids on their journeys, so maybe that’s not such a big deal). I made a post here with some relevant headcanons regarding that time period.
As for the Keyblade wielders thing,,, it’s hardddd because they undeniably have saved a lot of people… but they saved them from the Heartless / Darkness, which arguably breached containment because of them. But yeah kh4 really seems to be leaning into the “keyblade wielders are the problem” angle which is going to be so interesting. They want to be peacekeepers :’( …most of them want to be anyway.
Kinda ass but these are my venitas designs from a few different aus. No one asked but I have thoughts about vanven and have an explanation for each design.
I like to think when ven and vanitas fuse their appearance can change depending on how "whole" vanitas sees himself. In bbs he wants completion, seeing himself as a piece of 'Ventus' thus when they combine they look like 'Ventus' but because they aren't exactly whole their eyes aren't the way they should be.
The first design is from a oneshot au I made where the events leading to their fusing are left vague at the moment. But in this au vanitas and ven are too independent to become one. Overtime it is hinted at the possibility of their hearts combining but due to their different experiences and years apart they have grown too much to fit neatly back together. This only shows physically through their eyes, one green and one yellow. Though there is a whole lot going on behind those eyes, two separate beings stuck in one body.
The middle one is from an au I've made with the wonderful @moonyeater that is centered around Sora getting norted at the end of DDD due to vanitas tearing ven away from him and taking the last bit of protection Sora's heart had. Ven and vanitas don't completely fuse until kh3 but during that time Vanitas held the wounded heart of Ventus in his replica body until they could locate their orginal body. After a lot of stuff happens both Sora and Venitas end up free from Xehanort leaving them with their original body but with the eyes Vanitas had. They became 'Ventus' somewhere along the way but still hold the eyes Vanitad had before falling under Xehanort's influence. Their consciousness is a lot more fused and is more or less one but sometimes the lingering feeling and desires of the two halves will war against one another, causing Ventus to spiral. He knows he isn't Vanitas or Ven anymore and doesn't see himself as such.
The final one is another au with Moony! In this au Vanitas and Ven see themselves as two separate people but acknowledge their connection and ability to become one. Vanitas has had time to grow as a person and see himself as 'whole' so the body is affected a bit more by his appearance. Venitas has both of their eye colors mixed and streaks of black hair.
I feel like I had more to say at one point but I'm sleepy so here this lol
'being single sucks because youll be lonely' lame and untrue. 'being single sucks because a lot of groceries are portioned to make food for more than one person and you cant really take advantage of buying in bulk because it'll go bad before you use it all' this i cannot deny.
