dude my trans eddie headcanons made me so sad. he starts to feel a little out of place in middle school and can’t place his finger on why--all the girls in his class are super nice, and he loves hanging out with them, but there’s a disconnect on some level that he just doesn’t understand. he has a few really close guy friends, but they always see him as a girl, and eddie always feels like he’s on the outside. even barry, sweet barry, keeps a bit of distance in a way that really, really hurts eddie.
in 10th grade, he discovers that he’s trans--or at least, he thinks he is. but he’s too scared to tell his parents (or anyone, for that matter) because he knows what’ll happen if he voices his true feelings. his dad is a republican and his mom, as much as he loves her, is his father’s shadow, and agrees with everything he says. (she also loved having a daughter she could pamper and preen and mold into the woman that she wanted to be.) so eddie keeps to himself. stays quiet. goes on with school and pretends that he feels like he belongs, and hides the recoil that goes on when someone refers to him as a “young lady”. but he survives.
in the end, though, he waits two years and hides who he is until he’s out of high school and ready to move out into the real world. the whole reason he and his father have a rocky relationship as adults is because eddie came out to his parents after he turned 18 and was weeks away from going off to college--but eddie’s dad had a huge campaign going, and his son coming out as queer was not something that would do him any favors in the polls. there was a huge fight. eddie had gotten kicked out of the house.
(this is where it turns into barry/eddie bc im thallen trash--barry takes him in and helps him pull himself together in the weeks before his move to school. barry is the one to first use he/him/his pronouns and his preferred name (eddie, or edward) and it strikes eddie that, one, he’s finally taking steps to becoming the person he wants to be; two, that barry allen might be the best friend he could’ve ever asked for; and three, he might be in love with barry. three very important, distinct realizations. when they end up going to the same college, their relationship gets deeper and grows stronger until the universe finally forces them to crash together)
Iris is Nonbinary in my fanfic world. She still uses she/her pronouns because pronouns don't have a gender. Combine that with my love for trans!Barry and Cisco and yeah. I'm trash. xoxo
