Ok ok ok someone help me find a video I’ve been thinking about
List websites you’d watch funny flash cartoons on in like 2000-2010-ish
There was one really stupid one where there’s an exchange like this:
Man: would you like some cinnamon before ya go?
Man: Ha! It was actually basil you will now die of basil poisoning
And also:
“The seas parted and fishes died”
It was really really funny to my teenage brain.
The best Newgrounds fix ever is to paste ?emulate=flash on the end of a portal submission URL.
Viral Videos of 2004
I just remembered this random thing.
Back when people were sharing quirky clips on message boards and MySpace and such, I saw these two videos (probably both musical Flash animations) at about the same time. One was clever and well-made, and the other was “Only in Kenya.” Well, you can guess which one was the next inescapable viral sensation.
At the time, I was really annoyed that everyone was fixating on the cutesy lion loop when this much better video was right there, a video with an actual beginning and ending like a proper cartoon.
When I looked back on the “Only in Kenya” phenomenon a year or so later, I was unable to recall the other video that I’d actually liked. That really bugged me. I hoped I would run across it again, but I never did. And so, ironically, one of my main memories of the so-called "Golden Age of Flash Animation" is the absence of a memory.
This is sort of bugging me again, now that I’m thinking about it. I still feel like I’d recognize this video if I saw it. Is there an organized database of popular videos from pre-Youtube Internet culture?
Narrator: Never put your ring on or else Ring-wraiths will stab you to death - with knives, pointy knives that burn with the fires of a thousand evils!
Sauron: COOL!
