Flash Sheets
Flash sheets are an alternative to flash cards but you do them on a sheet of paper instead of index cards.
On the left, in as big and bright and easy to read as you can make it while not feeling like you're wasting paper, you write the word youre trying to learn. I did all caps block text and alternated the marker color I used. On the right straight across you write the definition/translation and you write it in an obscured way, to prevent accidentally cheating when you check the previous word.
There are many ways to obscure the definition. You could write it very lightly in pencil, you could use cursive, you could use a language you're not perfectly fluent in (i used French for my Italian flash sheets when English is my first language, though I had studied French from 4th grade) I even used phonetic elvish for my AP Physics vocab. Or you can use a plethora of other things you can think of.
Then you fold the paper so that you cannot see the definitions but can see all the target words.
You can then quiz yourself while slightly less at risk of losing words. I, for one, always lost individual flash cards so I needed an alternative. And found it hard to shuffle through them, so the major upside of Flash Cards wasn't beneficial for me. An upside to flash sheets is that with a little formatting you can just use the same regular notebook you take your notes in. I always put my vocabulary at the back of the notebook and kept my classroom notes at the front.
Also, this method allows you to have multiple columns: you can label a formula, a part of speech, a conjugation or declension, synonyms. Or, like I often did, multiple languages.
Anyway, good luck.
