Flashblock notes
Earlier today, chibipaw ran into an ask directed at her, which contained spoilers and some questions about flashblock. She meant to answer privately but accidentally published it, and then deleted the answer so I wouldn't see it, which means the asker may not have gotten the reply. (I have no idea whether there are notifications.)
I am supposed to convey that flashblock will not prevent me from seeing anything. I can get flash content--it just starts as an empty box with a little flash symbol in the middle, and I have to click on it to activate flash. It doesn't automatically load/start playing. This allows me to, among other things, minimize whatever other programs I have running that might have sound, put in the earbuds, turn down the TV in the background, and otherwise make sure I'm ready to actually deal with interactive movie-bits on the computer.
Chibipaw will make sure I don't miss anything.
A word of advice for those of you (like me) who have had the living shit scared out of them by autoplay and want to know how to shut it off- if you're in chrome, use flashblock. It shuts ALL flash down, though, so if you want to play a bit of music on a post, or a video, you have to click it one extra time to get past the filter. BUT it works. Bit of a pain, but it's worth it, I think.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS.
New add-on I've just installed, Flashblock, is working perfectly at blocking videos and music files so they don't download automatically when you go on the page.
WIN.
Flashblock
What's worse than banner ads? Flash banner ads that play video and audio automatically.
Ads on the internet will die soon, and not a second too soon. For now - adblock plus + flashblock do a good job.
