On the edge of the woodland garden at the Beth Chatto Garden, Essex, the deciduous shrub Euonymus planipes (flat-stalked spindle, Chinese spindle tree) was providing a display of red fruit splitting to reveal orange seeds. As the season continues there will be a spectacular display of autumn foliage colours with a mix of green, red and even white.
