Flatbed Scanners Used as Relay Point for Controlling Malware in Air-Gapped Systems

Scientists from two Israeli universities have come up with a way to use flatbed scanners as relay points when sending commands to malware installed on an air-gapped computer. Further research also revealed the scanner could also be used to relay stolen data to a nearby attacker.

Adventures in Flatbed Scanners

I love scanning papers, I use a simple office scanner to digitize my drawings, and yes I love the accuracy I can get with a scanner (as opposed to a photograph) but I also love the imperfections introduced by scanners.

Recently, I've been fascinated by xerography and scanning techniques, especially by artists who scan 3-d objects.

Naturally, I had to try this out for myself.

I don't have much more to say, so here are some of my favorites so far.

I'm going to use these in an upcoming animation/compositing project :)
