IKEA’s flat-pack superpower got a big push from a tiny car problem in the 1950s. Designer Gillis Lundgren could not fit a table into his car, so he took off the legs. That simple “make it smaller” idea helped IKEA turn furniture into easy-to-carry boxes.

A follow-up on the cardboard prototype, this next iteration is made from, you guessed it, coroplast.  Aayyyy.

It’s a pretty minimal design, the only components being coroplast, strap webbing, velcro, and a plastic container.  I adore coroplast for it’s ability to create living hinges and origami structures, using only an x-acto knife.

The cats didn’t hate it all that much, which was a plus.
