Hey!Last year around June I got a budgie. And now I have the problem that it is kind of hyper-sexual? They would come up to me multiple times a day and m*asturb*te using my hand and I'm getting kind of worried of their health.I tried to stop them, but they would get aggressive. Do you have any recommendations on what I can do to minimize this?Should I go see a vet? (I don't know the gender specifically. They look like a female but according to videos on the internet, they behave like a male)
Sorry for getting to this late! Birds tend to get hormonal as they age, it’s normal, but not a thing to be encouraged. Here’s a few things that should help.
Don’t let your bird do that, first of all. Put them back in the cage when they do that to you and bring them out again later. Don’t encourage the behaviour by letting it happen, just put the bird away for a bit or stop holding them.
Refrain from petting your bird anywhere else aside from the head because touching on the back, wings, tail etc make the bird more hormonal.
Give them less light.
Remove anything from the cage that could be seen as nesting material.
