The Three Lines

Title refers to the "Three Lines of Ship Defense" used by the three major factions in the "Harpyverse". While I did whip up this concept on my own, it's likely not unique to my setting. Information on what each line is and does is past the page break.

The First Line: Interceptors: Refers to the interceptor contingent found stationed on most carriers. Interceptors are responsible for taking out attackers, drop ships, small gunships, etc. before the enemy ships can get within firing range. In larger-scale engagements, this responsibility of protection extends to the entire local fleet, operating as a close aerial patrol for every allied ship in the battle.

The Second Line: Barriers: Refers to the ship's barriers. The gold standard across the fleets capable of withstanding powerful barrages from opposing capital ships. While some ships forgo powerful barriers in favor of thicker armor, even the weakest of capital ship barriers can safely defend against battleship-grade directed energy cannons.

The Third Line: Point-Defense Screens: Refers to the vast arrays of Qwik-Fire Rotary Defense Cannons found on virtually every capital ship. Every cannon's firing lines overlap with at least two others, allowing for incredibly dense fields of defensive fire. Only the nimblest of starfighters piloted by the most skilled of pilots can get through a point-defense screen unscathed.
