Mounting a deer that is displaying the Flehmens Response. We also call it a flehming deer for short. Deer begin striking this lovely pose around November with the beginning of the rut/breeding season. When they make this face pheromones are breathed in through the mouth and pushed up into something called the vomeronasal organ. This allows males to better understand the deer around them. The sampling of pheromones can tell them which females are ready to breed and possibly indicate the health of the males around them.
