last song: "The Funeral” by Band of Horses (I have heard it in the background of a Hallmark Mysteries commercial a couple times, and it’s stopped me in my tracks every time because I KNEW the song from years ago, but couldn’t remember the title or band, and it was driving me CRAZY. I was so excited when I finally figured it out that I tweeted my success lol. (Note: if anyone is like, “whaa, fleur is on twitter?”, see my pinned post for info.))

last movie: the Emma adaptation that came out last year (I have Thoughts, if anyone wants to chat!)

currently reading: Two real books!!! #fleurreadsrealbooks2021 is off to a good start! A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem, a historical mystery-romance, and Forever Your Earl, a historical romance-romance, that I heard about when @paigenotblank shared a tweet with me wherein the author described her leading men as “cinnamon rolls who know how to fuck” and, well... *shrug emoji* (Note: if anyone wants to find me on goodreads, let me know.)

currently watching: Two new shows, hooray!!! Season 2 of ADOW and Masterpiece Theatre’s Miss Scarlet and the Duke. I’ve also been catching up on the past two seasons of Endeavour, which I got behind on. (Not entirely because I knew that Endeavour would have that terrible moustache in s6...but not not entirely because of it...HA) I’m also slowly rewatching Murdoch Mysteries and Murder She Wrote.

currently working on: knitting a shawl for a friend and finishing my thank you notes from Christmas (oops).

currently playing: I’ve been doing some online puzzles, which are pretty cool.

In which knitting ideas are like fic ideas, and I have no self control.

So, I got a knitting kit as a gift, but I don’t knit. Though I’d like to learn. Do you have any youtubers or other websites you’d recommend for super beginners to learn the basics?

Oooh, fun!!! :D :D But unfortunately, no…I know such things exist, but I first learned so long ago (freshman year of college) that it was, uh, before such things existed. :p My mom first tried to teach me, then a friend in college actually did teach me, but what really helped me were a couple of books. I had to re-teach myself many times since I knit so seldom at the beginning. First was the Klutz knitting book (is Klutz even around anymore??? Wow that was a long time ago.) that I got when I was a teenager and went back to after I’d learned from my friend, and now when I need a refresher or to learn a thing that I don’t know, I go to the Knitter’s Companion (my mom’s book that I am...borrowing...probably forever :p ). I like books with illustrations because they very clearly show where the yarn is supposed to go and usually have it in different colors so you can see how it overlaps/fits together.

I’d also recommend that you join Ravelry (social media website) which is where I find free patterns and it really helps me to see how other people have done things. I’m sure there are new knitter groups there that would be able to point you in other internet directions.

And, I’ll also open this up to my followers - do any of you knitters out there have any youtube or other online tutorial recs?

Me, buying some yarn from a nice lady on ravelry who turns out to be a whovian: I like DW a normal amount. Nine is my Doctor and I like him a normal amount. I am not a huge fan of the Moffat era but I dislike it a normal amount. I am excited for Thirteen a normal amount. *coughsawkwardly*

OK, kids. I’ve heard of people doing “knitting olympics” before, so I’m gonna do my own knitting world cup over the next month to finish some languishing WIPs and hopefully knock out a few new things. I’m posting here so you can keep me accountable. :p From the top, counterclockwise: a scarf for my aunt that should have been finished months ago, a tweed cowl, some fingerless gloves for myself that I started last fall, and some red, purple, and teal yarns that will become cowls for gifts. (Those yarn colors might look familiar to a few people, but that is PURE COINCIDENCE.) ;)
