The app Flexling has been updated a bit!

It uses the Tatoeba sentence collections for sentence/audio/translation SRS flashcards for many languages. I've been testing it for Mandarin (which I mentioned a while ago). Happy to say that last time I tested it, it's audio only study mode worked very well - like glossika - as long as I kept my screen unlocked. I'm going to be testing it some more, in case eventually there's an update so audio only mode works for long periods with the screen locked.

This app might be useful for: people using Clozemaster who want a better Audio Only mode (or like Flexling's TTS, interface, or pricing options more), people using Glossika who need to learn MORE VOCABULARY (since Glossika's vocabulary is limited and Flexling app also has an SRS audio only mode), people who want a better TTS for their sentence flashcards (the TTS sounds very good for Mandarin and I'm picky about that), and people who like anki pre-made decks but want to explore other tools with both premade and self-made card options (this app has a lot of self-made card options meant to make it as convienient and easy as possible, I haven't explored the feature much because I am happy with premade cards - but I see the appeal as when I try to make anki cards I hate that I have no way to add audio easily so Flexling seems nice if I ever want to make my own sentences.)

Also there's now unlimited premade sentence cards you can study on all the paid options (similar to Clozemaster there's a limit on the free tier). I am happy to hear this ovo)/

Basically: if you're upper beginner to intermediate, and want to study new words in sentences in text, audio, or text+audio.

I am testing it out for Mandarin now. It seems like a Clozemaster clone but free, and with better Audio Only mode. I'm trying it out to see how it's hands free listening only mode compares to Glossika. It has better TTS than Clozemaster (for Mandarin on my phone), and better Listening Only mode (with actual SRS for listening only mode). So far I am excited about that, as I don't like Clozemaster enough to keep using it and those were key reasons. Another plus: Flexling seems to have as many words as Clozemaster, both using the same tatoeba site sentences, so it'd be potentially useful for people once they finish Glossika courses to learn more vocabulary. As glossika courses don't have as many unique words (for the courses I tried - Japanese and Mandarin), and aren't primarily focused on increasing vocabulary.

As Glossika's audio only mode, and how well it works, was for me the KEY thing Glossika does best and sole reason it's app is worth using (for me). Because I couldn't find any other apps who did listening only learning mode, with SRS, as well as Flexling.

I still like Glossika's ability to do NEW SENTENCES ONLY and Review separately. As the way I cram study new stuff in big batches, then review later, works better that way. The app doesn't have that yet. But may add it.

Flexling seems like a good possible alternative to Clozemaster (or anki if you don't care what premade decks you use and you're just using anything that'll work for common words in sentences - it doesn't replace specialized anki decks), with a Listen Only mode that actually works. Which is great if, like me, you like listening to learn while doing other stuff.

The app has some extra features I didn't explore. Also, just like Clozemaster, I imagine there's a number of tatoeba sentences with incorrect translations. This doesn't bother me personally (because even fucking Glossika which I had to pay for had significant sentence issues I was noticing it for 10% of the sentences). But it may bother you, and anki sentences you make yourself or premade ones that look like they were reviewed much more thoroughly would probably be more reliable.
