it is fun!!! ugh you talking about how fun it is makes me want to do it, lol. but i have so many random projects! plus aybs! idk how i would even keep track of word count if i did. ugh. should i do it???

yeah tracking word count for multiple projects would probably be the hardest part of that, but as multiple projects count I wouldn’t discourage you from doing it if you wanted to! The only thing that’s more fun than doing NaNo is doing NaNo with a friend =D =D No pressure though, there’s always camps and next year?

personally though I need, like, at least a month of planning, haha. I’ve been thinking about this since like September

Oh totes, I would never discourage someone from doing nano! I just feel like it's not what I need right now, but without nano I doubt I would have written any fic EVER.

oh yeah that makes sense. nano is useful for some writerly things but certainly not for all of them. also it’s just boatloads of fun

I don't think so? Last year I wrote CAYSOW instead of a novel and didn't finish in Nov. I feel like after 5 Nano wins I've learned how to write a shitty draft; now I'm trying to learn how to finish things, which is hard to do in a month...

yeah I think the drawback to nano is that once you have a shitty draft written there’s little to no motivation to actually truly finish it up with the edits it needs? And sometimes when you hit the 50k you even lose motivation to finish the story? I know the point is quantity > quality but yeah, I agree that I’m at the point where finishing up a work is something I need to work on over actually producing it. Still, I do love the spirit of NaNo. It’s ridiculous and crazy and you get like no sleep and I love it. And I think in the case of this project I do sort of need some sort of push to get to the end of the first draft otherwise it’s never going to have the chance to see the light of day

okay so long story short I’m pretty sure I can’t actually achieve the infamous 50k this time around [which is fine by me, i feel like it’s more about the spirit of the thing anyway, and I just miss the crazy atmosphere of it all] so instead of planning a new story I’m going to use the month to finish up a pedrazar fic project I haven’t touched since August [or to write 25k... whichever comes first]

and if for some reason I do have the opportunity to reach 50k there is another fic project I’m working on I could use a word count boost on, but the likelihood of me getting to this is very improbable

You gonna shoot for it?

FWIW I really liked the Felicity Jones/JJ Feild version of Northanger Abbey, and I wasn't even much of a fan of the book. I'd recommend it :)
