He hated how, every time he was gearing up for his turn, someone would spit out a +2, +4, change the colour, reverse, or skip. It was like the very soul of the game had it out for him. It didn't matter who he played with, Uno had a deep-set hatred to whatever strategy he could craft.
It didn't help that George was a certified cheater and Lando changed the rules every turn because he 'just remembered that rule.' Alex had already tried to convince him numerous times it was just best to let them win. That they'd get crafty and cheat no matter how you played.
But no.
No, Oscar was competitive. Oscar was a two times Grill the Grid champion for a reason. Oscar had blood on his hands, speaking figuratively mind you (he doesn't want to get sued), from even the pettiest competitions.
No. Oscar was going to win even if he had to blow up the plane trying.
That’s why, when he noticed the two +2's and the change the colour that currently occupied his hand, he tried his hardest not to get excited. That was the first mistake he had found out. Even if you had a +4 change the colour as your Uno card, George would still win even if he held 15 cards in his hand.
Lando placed a red 6 on the pile, signalling Oscar's turn. He inhaled deeply, setting down the red +2 in his hand, turning to level a challenging stare at George. George just put down a yellow +2, adding to the tally.
Alex looked up from his cards, seeing the two +2 cards and yelled out in despair. "George! You're so annoying!" He dramatically drew the four cards, his face fallen at the rapidly increasing cards in his hand.
"Oscar started it." George rebutted with a shrug. "I'm just out here trying to survive."
Oscar snorted. "Since survivors cheat with every turn- Hey! Put that card back, it is not your turn!"
Oscar had noticed the sneaky additions that both Lando and George had been piling on the stack of cards when everyone else was preoccupied. Yet, whenever he tried to call it out, they spluttered an excuse.
They were straightening the pile.
There was a bent card they wanted to flatten.
They couldn't reach the pile.
They couldn't see what the top card was.
George's cheating must have got to Lando though, either that or the losing, because Lando had started accusing George equally throughout the game.
George didn’t even look ashamed of being caught trying to sneak an extra card on the pile. He just retracted his hand and added the card back to his stack.
Lando mulled over his cards, pulling out a yellow 5. Oscar stared at the card in jubilee. Was a strategy actually going right?
Was he about to be crowned Uno Champion of the Flight to Baku Championship?
Was he actually beginning to like Uno?
He placed the yellow +2 from his hand, yelling out Uno before they even noticed he had only one card left. He tried to school the smug look at his winning card. Maybe Uno wasn't bad at all, he just wasn't having a good day all those other matches.
George put down a red +2, followed by Alex gasping in joy and placing down a blue +2. Lando stared at the pile in disdain, making Oscar try to stop bouncing from delight.
He was going to win! He'd finally be able to put the imaginary Flight to Baku Uno Championship trophy next to his two Grill the Grids. He'd have gloating privileges all weekend. He didn't necessarily care about the race anymore. He was about to beat George in an Uno match!
Lando put down a +4 change the colour. "RED!" He yelled, sitting back triumphantly, a proud smirk crossing his lips.
