This #FliptPicFriday I’m looking forward to attending my first comic-con, the Kansas City Comic Con! Seeing the sights, catching some good panel discussions and supporting some artist peeps.

It’s FliptPicFriday & I had a fantastic time this last weekend at the Free Range Film Festival in Wrenshall, MN. I highly recommend it. Great people, beautiful part of the country, and just a really cool experience. It’s now in my top 3 of the coolest places I’ve screened my work. The Boulevard Drive-In & the Royals Stadium being up there in the top 3 as well.

Barn now 100 years later at the festival

Screening films in the top part of the barn. They had two smaller rooms in the lower portion of the barn as well that they simulcast the films in.

Lots of cool cars, including this coupe, at a car show in the next little town over.

And I couldn’t leave town without taking picture of this large sculpture of a jumping deer in their park.

They really had a great mix of animation and documentaries in the blocks I saw. Two that stuck out for me were Skip Stones for Fudge and Pickle by Amy Nicholson.

This FliptPicFriday it’s a triple play!

My short animation, Some Days Are Bug Days, will be screening at three festivals this weekend! You’ll have two chances to catch it at the Animation Block Party in Brooklyn, NY. It screens in the Animation for Kids block on Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 2pm.

For the double play, it will screen on Saturday at 2pm in a 100 year old barn, pictured above, at the Free Range Film Festival near Duluth, Minnesota. I’m excited to be attending this festival. How cool is it to get to screen in a 100 year old barn!! So if you’re near Duluth, MN come on out, enjoy some films and say hi!

And for the triple play this weekend, it will screen at 3pm in the Kansas City Women in Film & TV (KCWIFT) block at the Kansas City Fringe Festival.

This FliptPicFriday learn how to set up your Peel TV Smart Remote with this 2d animated explainer video. The character in this animation was designed to be an everyman character with colors that would pop against the blue colors he would be set against in the animation. Music done by Randy Skach of Western Automatic Music.

It’s FliptPicFriday and this week I had the coolest experience ... a sighting of the Flipt Pictures girl out and about!

Last night Kansas City Women in Film & TV (KCWIFT) had a great informational meeting for some 70 people about Kansas City’s new Film Development Program. In attendance from left to right were Megan Crigger (KCMO Director of Culture & Creative Services), Amy Greene (Producer of All Creatures Here Below, the program’s first recipient) and Stephane Scupham (KCMO Film Commissioner).

I’m there listening to all the great info when I spot Steph’s laptop and my Flipt Pictures girl on it in the upper right corner. That most definitely made my week!

It’s FliptPicFriday and it’s NUTS!

I had the great pleasure to have dinner last night with some talented filmmakers, one of whom, Penny Lane, is visiting KC to debut her film NUTS! here at the Tivoli. I’m really looking forward to seeing it.

Check it out if you like documentaries about weird eccentric people that includes animated reenactments. I mean, how could you not be intrigued?
