On Floating Devices
Floating above the sea, crafted out of recyclable materials, designed for a memorable cinematic experience. While departing what we have been discussing, I like the idea of large, floating pieces, merging together as one larger piece to serve a purpose.
Can different communities be supplied huge "blank" lanterns, consisting of the same shape and size, but when bounced upon the edges of one another, they somehow stick togethers? Furthering the idea of many different, diverse communities coming together to create one large city? That may address the dilemma of the disconnect between what neighborhoods are doing on their own and the final event.
What would it mean to include lanterns that look similar to neighborhood lines? Is there a way to design them like puzzle pieces that fit together at the end?
Back to timing – what will ensure that the lanterns, whatever they may be designed as, float down the times that they need to be, should they be staggered? Similar to previous discussions - looking at the river itself as a timeline from start to finish - changing shape throughout history as lanterns wind down the river to the end, "present day." Can there be stations throughout the river, so that people add to them, and interact with them, as they move down to a “finish line?" What about bird lanterns, "phoenix rising from the ashes?"
