This is by far the best piece I've ever done so far! Really pushed myself with that one, and I'm incredibly proud of the results. I hope I keep improving at backgrounds! This is also the piece that made me discover the beauty of Aseprite scripts and extensions (FX extension my beloved)
D&D poster #2, 93x102 (if only counting the actual picture, not the frame), October 2024
Here's a poster I made for my university's D&D club. Had a lot of fun playing with different palettes and pixel sizes in this one. Really happy with the collage kinda effect it had!
I've cropped out any non-art parts, because no way in hell am I telling y'all where to find me. If you somehow end up recognizing this on campus, then come and say hi I guess lol
More details on my process below!
I did it by drawing the background first, with one palette, then opening another aseprite projects for the characters using different palettes and using a much smaller canvas, before resizing them up and copy-pasting them on top of the background! This had the bonus effect of giving me isolated version of the individual warrior, wizard and goblin to reuse in future projects :)
Fun fact: the giant sky eye was supposed to originally be a sun, but I never got it looking how I wanted to, so I made it an eye. I like to think it represents the DM observing the player's characters.
It was a bit weird to work with more than 4 colors though, too used working with the Game Boy's color limitations, but I think I made it work (thank god for Lospec's collection of palettes, it's a real godsend)
Got a few Artfight attacks in the works, but they have to finish drying before I can paint them, and then the paint's gotta dry too, so here's a quick project in the interim. There's been quite a few bunnies on my dash today, I felt inspired haha! Really should have tried animation earlier, this is so much fun!
Town guard, 16x16, June 2024.
Making a half decent walk cycle, even if it's only 2 frames, is harder than it looks! I still have to makes the sideways and back sprites, but once I do I'll be sure to post the full sprite sheet!
Night Sky, 120x80, June 2024.
Really happy with this one! Might be a tiny bit too busy, but the stars look really nice I think. Bonus alt palette below.
Spring Tulip Portrait, 80x96, July 2024.
Been a while since I did any pixel art! I wanna make more of these kinda pictures, maybe eventually making a little homebrew Gameboy jigsaw game out of them. GB Studio's supposedly very accessible.
