The town hall, built in 1841. Now it’s the historical society. A plaque in front commemorates the Mill River Disaster of 1874 in which a dam gave way and swept through 4 villages resulting in 144 lives lost and 750 people left homeless. Mills and factories were destroyed. In this town, the victim’s ages ranged from 8 mos all the up to 80 years of age.
