Song Review: Robert Earl Keen and Randy Rogers - “Shotgun Willie”

Bluesy, raggedy and all by their lonesomes, Robert Earl Keen and Randy Rogers trade licks and verses on a new version of “Shotgun Willie.”

Seated on stools at John T. Floore Country Store - the Texas venue celebrating 75 years of hosting live music - the duo ramble through Willie Nelson’s 1973 song with more emphasis on fun than perfection.

Which is how it should be in an informal video release such as this. Live and likely unrehearsed, this loose rendering of Nelson’s song- which mentions the venue’s founder by name - may pop up again in tighter form when Keen and Rogers play two co-headline shows April 14 and 15 at Floore’s.
