sage  sits  quietly  at  the  edge  of  the  dock,  his  fishing  rod  held  steady  in  his  hands,  the  line  taut  with  the  promise  of  a  catch.  the  sun  dips  low  on  the  horizon,  casting  warm  hues  across  the  water's  surface.  his  red  hair,  tipped  with  yellow,  catches  the  fading  light,  while  his  purple  eyes  remain  fixed  on  the  gentle  tug  of  the  line.  this  was  a  moment  of  rare  peace—a  brief  respite  from  his  duties  as  a  white  mage  and  the  warrior  of  light.

just  as  he  feels  the  rod  pull  sharply,  his  grip  tightening  in  anticipation,  the  loud  crunch  of  boots  on  the  dock  pierces  the  stillness.  the  fish  jerks  away,  the  line  snapping  slack,  and  sage  freezes  mid-motion.  the  ripples  in  the  water  mock  him,  the  catch  gone.

“i know i’m not supposed to want this, to want you,” holden confessed, his voice low, roughened with the weight of his emotions, “but every time i’m near you, it’s all i can think about.” his eyes dropped, lingering briefly on the line of regan’s jaw, the way their lips parted ever so slightly, as if inviting him to take a step he wasn’t sure he could undo. his fingers twitched, his greed whispering that it would be so easy to give in, to let the walls he’d built crumble for just one night. “just for tonight,” he whispered, his voice a mix of plea and promise. “let me have this. let me have you.”

holden tilted his head, studying regan’s defiant stance—the crossed arms, the casual shrug. classic regan. even when the odds were stacked against him, they stood firm on their independence. it was one of the things holden admired about him... and one of the things that drove him absolutely insane. "is that your plan, then? shoot first, cook them an italian dish second?" he released a dry laugh. "you got guts, but you're going to need a lot more than that."

regan is one of the few people holden has never used his compulsion abilities on; he respects regan and wants to ensure they're on equal footing.

no matter where holden disappears to, how long he’s gone, or what trouble he’s managed to find himself in, regan is always his first stop upon returning. usually showing up on regan’s doorstep, bottle of whiskey in hand and war stories (aka times holden made life unbelievably difficult) to tell and usually ending with them get the best sleep in a while.

many drunken confession have been spilled, ones around trust and reminding each other of home. they pretend it never happens, choosing to navigate the morning after with lots of coffee and light laughter, but they always remember.

holden particularly likes to bring back a new recipe he wants to try out with regan being his (willing or unwilling) test subject. they come out decent 90% of the time.

they don't do labels. they're always almost lovers, almost something real, almost a future; stuck in limbo as old friends that know each other better than anybody else without committing to anything more.

holden never says goodbye when leaving. he always says "until next time" instead, which is the closest thing to a promise holden allows himself to make to regan.

regan keeps a collection of holden's handwritten letters from throughout the years hidden beneath the floorboards.

during the full moon, holden always ensures he's far away from regan's home, claiming it's to protect him, but somehow his wolf form recognizes regan as his "pack" and becomes overly protective.

"not  my  blood,"  he  says  in  lieu  of  a  greeting.  running  the  back  of  his  hand  across  his  face,  hanra  wipes  away  some  of  the  glistening  red.  not  because  he  cares  about  being  marked  with  blood.  it's  something  he's  grown  acquainted  with  in early  childhood.  but  hanra  doesn't  want  to  give  drago  the  taste  of  anyone  else's  blood.  certainly  not  any  of  the  hunters  he  slaughtered.  hanra  doesn't  know  much  about  vampires  or  hunters, seeing as how he only discovers recently the existence of supernaturals.  all  the hit man  knows  is that  anyone  who  means  harm  to  drago  must  die.  as  someone  with  inclination  towards  preemptive  strikes,  hanra  kills  a  whole  group  of  hunters  that  have  been  getting  dangerously  close  to  their  city.  after  hanra  cleans  his  knife,  he  lightly  nicks  it  across  his  tongue.  just  as  blood  begins  to  rise,  hanra  kisses  drago.  the  kiss  deepens,  burns,  red  spilling  over.
