yeah, it’s probably a lot like the use of “they” for people of unknown gender (or as a preferred pronoun). nothing really WRONG with it, but it sounds awkward because we’re not used to it
Yeah, I guess so. "They" usually is awkward for me unless I'm talking about an unidentified (not unknown gender) person or a broad example. If I'm talking about a specific person, "they" usually does feel awkward even though it's perfectly acceptable and often times the best word. One of the problems with "man privilege" is that its language seems to suggest that it only to encompasses grown men, but boys benefit from it too.
