i was listening to Harry Styles’ Adore You and while thinking about how he was in Dunkirk, i had this random thought, “what if Christopher Nolan’s daughter was a One Direction fan back then?”
yea, i went from thinking how the music video of Adore You visually feels like the bleak, seaside scenes of Dunkirk - to this random thought of Flora Nolan, Christopher Nolan’s eldest child, being a teenage girl at the time the movie was filmed (I’m a year or two older than her) - what if she was a fan, like, what would her questions to her dad about working with Harry Styles be? Would she have asked to meet Harry on set there on the shores of Dunkirk? And I know the Nolan kids get to visit their dad and mom’s workplaces (Nolan’s wife Emma Thomas is his producer, too), so how would that have looked like?
bruh just imagine… you’re a Directioner and your dad is suddenly working with one of the bandmates you’ve been crazy about 😭😭 like, who would her favorite member be?? what if it was Harry???? how would she have reacted to the news at the dinner table that evening, like, Chris going “Hey, guess what- a guy from One Direction is gonna be in our movie” “who?!!?!!” “guess who” “which one, Dad?!!!” “it’s that bloke called Harry Styles” “!!!!…*dies in shock*”
I've decided to leave my asks on (they are usually on anyway) because I saw a truly stupid article yesterday that I honestly cannot understand what the fuck the writing was getting at (other than "Nolan hates women," which I'm truly tired of at this point.)
1. Where did this fuckery that Nolan is a fascist come from? No really, I'd like an explanation that isn't "because we said so." If anything, Bane is Pol Pot. The apparent liberator who actually doesn't give a shit. He's year zero, not a chud (please take that bullshit and throw it in the nearest river. Please. I'm tired of it.)
For the record, Nolan is on the record as being paranoid and makes sure to have his passports with him at all times. But yeah, totally a fascist. *eyeroll*.
2. The truly jaw dropping part of this article is the writer claiming Nolan doesn't care about his kids. Or his wife. The wife who works with him.
Here's Chris not caring about his kids:
There's tonnes of photos of Chris with his wife so I won't even bother digging them out. Except to point out he was Knighted recently and Emma made a dame. So fuck off with this "he doesn't about his family."
Oh, and Flora recently graduated from NYU having studied film. But yeah, he doesn't care. That's why he went to her graduation. Because he doesn't care.
Seriously, fuck off. I'm tired of all of you. You bore me to death.
'Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan revealed he cast his own daughter in a daring scene and watched her become gravely injured on screen during filming for the highly anticipated flick.
The famed filmmaker revealed that his movie exploring the life of atomic bomb creator J Robert Oppenheimer, featured a gruesome cameo by one of his nearest and dearest.
Explaining that his daughter Flora, 22, stepped up to take on the role of a girl whose face becomes damaged during an explosion that plays out in the main character’s mind, Christopher said the idea came to him while his wife and offspring were visiting him on set.
The creative’s wife and producer Emma Thomas and their daughter came to have a look around the production sets while the film was still being made.
Not the first time Flora has leant her dad a helping hand, the budding actresspreviously appeared as an extra in his 2014 film Interstellar.
She is currently a student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and will graduate with the class of 2024.
Christopher told the Telegraph: ‘We needed someone to do that small part of a somewhat experimental and spontaneous sequence.
‘So it was wonderful to just have her sort of roll with it.’
Acknowledging it was a strange casting choice to have his own child play out such a grisly scene, the star admitted: ‘Truthfully, I try not to analyse my own intentions.
‘But the point is that if you create the ultimate destructive power it will also destroy those who are near and dear to you.
‘I suppose this was my way of expressing that in what, to me, were the strongest possible terms.’
The highly anticipated film stars Cillian Murphy in the titular role and includes appearances from Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr and Florence Pugh.
Christopher’s comments came after the stars of the flick staged a walk-out from the London premiere to ‘write their picket signs’ ahead of the Sag-Aftra strike announcement on Thursday evening.
The premiere of Christopher’s historical epic was brought forward by an hour ahead of a Sag-Aftra press conference in Los Angeles, which later declared the US union had agreed to strike.
The anticipated announcement cast a shadow over the London film premiere at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square, with the film’s major stars leaving before the screening of the film.
Speaking on the red carpet, Cillian told PA: ‘I stand by my colleagues, that’s all I can say to you.’'
Seeing one of the young women who took photos with Chris Nolan after his daughter's graduation say he inspired her to pursue film studies was so heartwarming. Because he did the same to me - I pursued screenwriting because of Memento.
This guy is inspiring women to GET INTO FILM. But I bet none of the film sites or Jezebel will say fuck all about that.
Anyway, congratulations Flora! I look forward to seeing your work one day.
