"Dare, win, or disappear," I said, and went off to die.
So guys...2
I know this goes against my theory but I just wanted to talk about it
FLORA'S FURY SPOILERS AHEAD
When Flora had to give up on her love for Udo I got mad, because I belive that the love of your life, the person that has always been there for you doesn’t equal some mother you never really met. AND YET SHE FIKING GAVE HER LOVE FOR UDO.
So I couldn't enjoy the Fort Sandy part because I was speed reading like "OHHH nooo this CAN'T BE"
But after thinking about it I noticed that Flora forgetting about Udo was a good thing. Maybe it was better that way, and here's why:
Both Flora and Udo are REALLY proud and would never apologize for their mistakes and would constantly blame each other for it, like they did time and time and time again.
If I'm not mistaken, Flora even says that they had the hugest fight ever on the second book and yet she has to make an herculean force to try to fix things up, so obviously they didn't apologize after their other fights.
Despite that, they stuck together for a reason: they were made for each other. Ok, I'll stop being sappy (maybe not).
Anyway, this memory loss gave them the chance to start again, get to know each other again, without the sorrows and regrets from the past.
Maybe if it was any other way they would've remained separeted because of their pride.
so guys...
I wrote a theory about Flora and sent it to Wilce but she hasn’t posted anything on tumblr since april so I’m just gonna leave it here..
FLORA’S FURY SPOILERS AHEAD
Starting from the point when Flynn saves Flora from that chest.
So, the theory is the classic “character halucinated everything”, and here’s why:
1-Could a simple human, even if he’s a priest and a werjaguar, defeat the Springheel Jack, Octohands and Pig combo? Springheel Jack is one of the most famous outlaws in Califa, Octohand, as he said, is the Anima of Califa’s greatest heroes and Pig is a protection creature. That’s pretty hard to belive.
2-Flora’s “teletransport” to Fort Sandy. That trip is usually paid in year of life, so I see the point for the Denizen, years are pretty uselful. But Flora’s shiny sparkly love for Udo?
3-Nothing completely strange and unthinkable is presented to Flora while she’s at Fort Sandy.
4-Every memory and feeling for Udo is removed from the equivalent to Flora’s soul. This is important, she did not hit her head and had amnesia, it was removed from her soul. So no Elsewhere magical love connection here. That would leave a HUGE hole in her, since Udo hás been her only friend and emotional support since, well, forever I guess. I’d dare to say that he’s the most important person in her life, but if we ignore that, there’s still 2 problems:
-Flora remembers what Udo told her “Not everything is about you, Flora”.
-Udo shows up in Flora’s dream. And he does not appear as some guy in the background of a crazy dream. He even says something in the lines of “como back, I miss you so much”
5-How cold Tiny Doom was when they met. Tiny Doom put her ass on the line and died to protect Flora, so why is she so cold when the two have the chance to talk? And why she keeps calling Flora “Flora” if she named her “Nyana”?
6-The ending. Oh Godess, the ending. Flora’s life was never perfect. She always had “places to go and praterhuman entities to fry”. She fixed something and almost immediatly another problem would appear. But in the last chapters of Flora’s Fury, all doors and Windows open for her, butterflies fly, birds sing, life is beautiful. She can choose between the freedom that she, in a different way but nonetheless desired, or going back home and oh, surprise surprise, she meets the Duchess that she was originally supposed to escort. And oh, surprise surprise, she’s the long lost Flora Primera and convenently looks exactly like Buck so Flora recognizes her right away. And oh, they go back to the island that Flora was told to NEVER come back to. And oh, surprise surprise, Capitan Ladadon is the only one that can take them to Califa, and Flora feels like she’s known him forever. And Octohands is “alive”. And Pig is unharmed. The book ends with a very suspicious “the future is bright” vibe.
7-To tie it all together, let’s go back to the point where Sieur Weaathmyr’s aunt wants to talk to him and Flora goes back to the hotel, before everything gets weird. In “Prophecies Libels & Dreams” we find out that Flora’s Fury is rumored to be in Sieur Wraathmyr’s family, but it just doesn’t make sense, since Flora supposedly still had her “diary” when she was no longer with him.
So maybe his aunt gave him a chance to go back to his family, handing Flora over to the birdies.
if anyone wants to talk about it just message me pls
Spooky (Hardhands x Reader)
So. I decided to write a songfic. Ironic, because I usually deslike songfics.
nsfw but not really? I only mention it so idk
Based on this song
//
He thought you were afraid of him. He thought that you were going to submit to his Will like most of the people. He thought he was so terrifing and sooo handsome that you'd do everything he asked of you. Ptfff, deep inside he was so childish. Despite that, there was chemistry between you and the Pontifexa's grandson, but everytime you tried to take it beyond just flirting, he tried to make you beg for it.
You were proud and not willing to beg.
Pirate's Parade had finally arrived and your band was going to perfom as an opening act for The Tygers of Wrath on the Blue Duck, and that was the perfect oportunity to tease him.
You had spent the past weeks writing a new song, and it was going to be the first you'd play, since it was kinda slow and Banastre would be pissed if you left the croud sleepy.
You put on your favorite kilt and a white shirt, a bit of eyeliner and that's it. You didn't need full makeup and big hair and expensive clothes to completely slay it, like he did.
So after half an hour on a streetcar and another half an hour walking to the Blue Duck (with your knifes in hand), you finally arrived just in time.
You were standing in the stage, the white haired boy already glaring at you because you were "dressed too simply to open the show of The Tygers of Wrath on Pirate's Parade, you better not fike it up". Well, fike him, the (y/b/n) was the best band in Califa and you were going to make him jealous, pissed off and hot under the collar. If the song had the effect that you expected, it’d be such a sight to see him wanting to have his way with you but having to perform on stage. Oh, why teasing is so much fun?
Banastre had already opened the Vortex and brought the necessary daemons, so you were ready to start.
"Hello everyone, we are the (y/b/n), our first song is called 'Spooky'. Hope ya'll like it"
You saw his eye twitch. You could almost hear him screaming "HOW DARE YOU SING A SONG WITH SUCH A CHILDISH NAME AS THE TYGERS OF WRATH’S OPENING ACT??".
The song started and you were sure that at any moment a very ugly Grammatica word would come flying in your direction, but you continued anyway.
Love is kind of crazy with a spooky little boy like you.
You sang the entire song in a mocking tone, not looking at the Duke even once. But then you turned at him and continued singing, looking at him dead in the eye:
“If you decide someday to stop this little game that you are a-playing
I’m gonna tell you all the things my heart’s just been a-dying to be saying”
And turned to the crowd again. You felt a hot Grammatica word hit your back and make you feel all hot and needy all of a sudden, as if someone had been edging you for the past hour, but you didn’t stop.
You finished the song and after that played more energetic ones to warm the crowd up, but it was becoming harder for you to sing, that Grammatica word leaving you panting ,sweating and trembling, but never making you cum. You were amazed by how composed you managed to be, even having to deal with Super-Spell-By-Super-Magician-That-You-Decided-To-Tease.
The opening act FINALLY came to an end and you were ready to:
1-Run as fast as you can to the bathroom
2-Take care of The Issue
But before you could even take breath to sprint, there was a firm grip on your arm and a hot breath on your neck, and then the voice that made your heart shrink and hurt, no matter how hard you tried to hide it.
“You little tease. Go to Bilskinir right now and wait on my room. It’s no use, only I can lift the spell, so do not consume your energy trying to touch yourself, it won’t get you anywhere.”
Even if you felt that your were about to explode, you decided to keep your pride a little longer and asked, your voice somehow not cracking:
“Tch. Did you like my song for you?”
You felt his grin against your cheek.
“Funny, I have a song for you too.
I put a spell on you
because you’re mine”
I've been thinking about writing a nsfwish Hardhands x reader...........
Further thoughts from reading Flora’s Dare, incoherent and out of context. Spoilers (duh)
Well, shit Udo. You got yourself some horcrux-boots, pal. I guess corpses of outlaws are not a great source of fashion accessories
I LOVE the girl with pink lacey dress, head of a bear and a foul mouth. Instant favourite. Also, I admire the way author smuggled all these “fucks” and “shits”. Well done.
Aaand she’s been decapitated five seconds later. Damn it. I was counting on you, Bear Girl.
You go plushy Pig! You’re the same Pig that Flora got as Catorcena giftie, aren’t you?
Oh, the Girl is alive, thank the powers that be. Aww, and she’s called Tiny Doom? What a cutie
“I am the crowned and conquering child, the girl with the most cake!” Stop being adorable!
Haha, oh Paimon. “Down into the oubliette, madama, and see you in 23 years. Toodles!”
WHAAAAT. She’s Hardhands wife? She’s Butcher Brakespeare?
Uh oh. Flora can see the markings in the maze that supposedly only Hadraadas should be able to see? Does that mean something or am I reading too much into this?
…Apparently not, because Georgiana Segunda called Flora “the last one”. Of Hadraadas, I assume. That’s quite a twist. No wonder Paimon has a soft spot for her. But who are her biological parents then? Butcher and Hotspur, I guess?
Ah shit. So the last living Hadraada keeps the Loliga tied to the Workings. And Axacaya knows it’s Flora. Oh look how nicely he prepares her for sacrifice, he fed her, lulled into false sense of security, drugged her, all that. Fiking asshole.
That was a good letter. And I’m happy that Flora’s real name is Nyana. Being named after your lost sister is rather awful
Flora and Udo are getting romantic? I don’t see it, guys
I like how narration changes to present tense when Flora is in Elsewhere. It gives it a dremlike quality
NINI MO!
Lol, Hardhands. “Almost-daughter” Sure, if it makes you feel better. Or where you trying to be nice?
OOOOOOH. Tiny Doom lives! And I haven’t yet bought the third book! I have to wait a few weeks before I can! This is not good!
Flora’s Dare
Flora’s Dare (Flora Trilogy #2)
By Ysabeau S. Wilce
7/10 Stars
Book Summary
Flora Fyrdraaca wants nothing more than to be a ranger, and for that she must master the magickal—and dangerous—language of Gramatica. But before she can find the ideal teacher, her aspirations are put to the test. Would a true ranger be intimidated by a tentacle that reaches for her from the depths of a toilet? Be daunted by her best friend’s transformation into a notorious outlaw, thanks to a pair of sparkly stolen boots? Be cowed by the revelation that only she can rescue the city of Califa from the violent earthquakes that threaten its survival?
Never. Saving her city and her best friend are the least a Girl of Spirit can do—yet what Flora doesn’t expect are the life-altering revelations she learns about her family and herself.
☆½ for Characters // ☆ for Writing Style // ☆☆½ for the Plot // ☆☆ for Emotional Reaction
☆½ for Characters
I liked the character development in this book. I loved how Udo finally admitted he liked Flora. I liked that Poppy is finally normal even though he’s a bit of hard ass. Didn’t see much of Buck. I hated that bird guy, can’t remember how to spell his name and I wish he got his comeuppance, something more than his favourite servant being brutally murdered by bouncing boots. I’m not sure I liked Flora’s surprise new mother either, and she’s fourteen what is she doing lusting after some really old bird guy? I mean really?
☆ for Writing Style
The writing style was pretty much the same as the first one. I’m pretty sure I lost a lot in the translation to English. I swear to god half of the first three chapters was just a summarization of the first book, completely unnecessary. There was a lot of rambling and way too much description at times as well.
☆☆½ for the Plot
The plot was either jam packed with action, or just plain boring descriptions of nothing, or my least favourite, retelling what happened in the last book or the last chapter. There was a lot of repeating in this book. The plot twist wasn’t a fav of mine either, I don’t know why she had to be an illegitimate child from her father’s affair, I mean great for her she’s a ranger by blood but I liked it better when her father wasn’t a fully cheating bastard. Why couldn’t he just love his family and be faithful, and why is this book so crass with cheating? I hate cheating. Doesn’t make me happy.
☆☆ for Emotional Reaction
I was obviously not happy with the cheating bit or the surprise parentage plot twist. I did like how everything panned out in the end, I liked how strong a character she was becoming. I was a little confused about why a fourteen year old was lusting after some 30 year old guy or why that 30 year old guy would be interested in return. I mean I hear about it Criminal Minds episodes but those guys end up shot or arrested. This was supposed to be a YA book last I checked. I liked that Valefore was getting nicer and not as jerky and I did enjoy all the developments with Udo and Flora, it’s nice that they’ve admitted they like one another. I can’t wait to read the third one and see how this all ends!
“So when Fyrdraacas turn fourteen and celebrate their Catorcena, and are then adults in the eyes of the Warlord, off we go to Benica Barracks to learn to march, to learn to ride, to learn to shoot, to learn to die. But I do not want to go to the Barracks and learn to be a killer, a servant, a slave.”
