Popular in southern Italy and Argentina, the fast up beat tempo of the tarantella is noted for a fast up beat tempo (usually) in a 6/8 time, or sometimes an 18/8 or a 4/4. It's accompanied by tambourines and among the most recognized forms of traditional southern Italian music. It varies in name from region to region as well. In Campania it is called tammuriata where as though it is called pizzica in the Salento region.
