🌸🍃You can feel autumn in the air ever so slightly now. The mornings has a coolness they haven't since spring, the shadows are growing longer, the leaves in many of the hedges are becoming edged with gold, the sunrises and sunsets are becoming more and more beautiful and the dahlias are finally coming into their own. My task now is deciding which varieties in the breeding field make the cut and move forward to next season and which ones don't. Wish me luck. 🥀

Gen's Garden Notes to Self, 1-24-24
Put into soil today:
72 Baptisia australis, stratified between damp paper towel in the refrigerator for ten days
42 Echinacea purpurea, stratified between damp paper towel in the refrigerator for a week
22 Lupinus perennis, left over from last year's seed, not stratified but seed-coat was removed at one end with nail clippers and then seed was held in water until it had swelled to about four times its original size
Need to up-pot:
22 dahlias (Floret's "Bees' Choice Mix" which I purchased at a very reasonable 5.95 a packet or so, last year; this year the price is eight dollars more, which is frankly ridiculous and they're just selling their name now rather than any increase in product value. I got 60% germination on the packet)
6 Asclepias tuberosa from the germination experiment
Need to start within this week:
The other packet of dahlia seed from Floret
Two to four trays of violas (Antique Shades, the other type of Antique Shades, Brush Strokes, all from Johnny Seed)
Mind:
viola seedlings already in progress (Frizzle Sizzle Mini Tapestry)
check stratifying seeds for mold/germination
