The Lotto Curse

Abraham Shakespeare was a good man. He cared about people and would give you the shirt off his back. He naïvely trusted people, which is what would get him killed.

Abraham grew up very poor in Plant City, Fl, didn't get the best education and as an adult he was illiterate. The man got a job as a truck driver making just $8\hr, doing the best he could to provide for his family. He lived with his mama, who he was very close to. The whole family pulled together to survive.

In 2006 Abraham purchased a 20.00 scratch off and bam. Just like that Abraham was a millionaire. Abraham hit the jackpot for 31 mil, and he took the payout for 17 mil. He bought a big, expensive new home. Helped everyone in his family get on their feet. He was running through the money fast- everyone he ever met was coming out of the woodwork begging for cash. Being the good man he was, Abraham had a really hard time telling anyone no. He even sent some inmates he'd never met some money after receiving letters asking for help.

He was a good man, but sadly nice guys finish last.

Abraham was out with his cousin when he was introduced to a woman named DeeDee Moore. She said she was a Nurse's aid, life coach, and a writer- she now wanted to write a book about Abraham. Too trusting, Abraham hired DeeDee. She said she needed a house so she would have a place to write her book, Abraham bought her one. Then DeeDee said she could fix all Abraham's problems- put all of his money in DeeDee's business account and he could tell people honestly that he couldn't give them any money because he didn't have access to it. Being a manipulative con artist, DeeDee actually talked Abraham into thinking this was a good idea.

Abraham wanted to travel, told everyone he knew that he was going to see the world. So when Abraham stopped contacting the people in his life, DeeDee told everyone that's what he was doing. Considering everyone in his life owed him money, many were happy not to hear from him. But Abraham's family, especially his mama, knew something was wrong. She demanded DeeDee put her in contact with her son.

I mentioned that Abraham couldn't read very well at all, but suddenly he was contacting his mama only through text, and his grammar is perfect. His mama knew this wasn't right, and she said so. Finally she got a brief call from a man who claimed he was her son, that he was seeing the world, don't worry he's fine.

Meanwhile DeeDee is suddenly living large; she's buying property, new cars, she even takes over Abraham's multi-million dollar home like it's her own.

When others who were close to Abraham see this, they all started demanding to talk to the missing man, DeeDee tells them that Abraham has AIDS and he's in another country getting treatment. Then DeeDee says Abraham died of AIDS.

Finally police are involved, and they find out that DeeDee talked Abraham's friend into calling his mother in exchange for erasing a $60,000. debt that he'd borrowed from the lotto winner. Friend goes undercover, and DeeDee shows him exactly where Abraham was- in her back yard under a concrete slab. Less than 3 years after Abraham became rich, he was shot to death by someone he trusted. It's believed that Abraham finally realized he was being scammed, he confronted DeeDee and she shot him dead.

DeeDee has been sentenced to life with no parole. She maintains her innocence, swears she was set up. Drug dealers or one of the people who owed money to Abraham must have killed him. She even tried to talk her father into taking the fall for her.
