Probably the most accurate Florida map I’ve seen so far. Although instead of a question mark, they should have just put “DUVAL” since that’s 70% of that area anyways

I have an idea for an art installation
I would love to make a full map of the United States at 1:63360 scale. This number if very specifically chosen because that would make it exactly one mile per inch. At it’s widest, the US is a little less than 3000 miles from coast to coast, and less than 2000 miles north to south, so the full map would be about 250 by 167 feet. That’s about 3/4 the size of a football field.
It would take years, maybe even decades to complete, but it’s always been a dream of mine, and I’ve got to start somewhere, so I might just focus on my home state of Florida for now. Florida is irregular in shape, but would easily fit within a 500 by 500 mile box, so this map would be 42 by 42 feet (a lot of that would be ocean, so the job is halfway done). That’s still monstrous, and I have nowhere to put it, but it’s a more realistic goal. I just have to take one step at a time, focus on a small area and expand outward.
If I ever become famous, I might open a Kickstarter to crowdfund it. I could see this plastered on the side of a building; that would be my legacy
