The 1970s: when "personal expression" meant painting a giant nude lady on your pants and calling it fashion. This couple has clearly never met a pair of jeans they couldn't make weirder with some acrylic paint and free time. Her jeans feature tasteful flowers; his feature what appears to be a psychedelic mermaid-pinup hybrid staring directly into your soul. The fact that they're both barefoot suggests this is either a fashion shoot or they've been at the craft supplies too long. This is peak "I can make my own clothes" energy, and honestly, we're here for it, even if the pants are a bit much.

The 1960s cocktail party: where young couples gather to sip mysterious canned beverages through paper straws (we were ahead of our time, then forgot, then remembered again) and eat appetizers that look like they came from a Jell-O mold. The paper lanterns suggest this is either a sophisticated soiree or someone's idea of a "tropical" theme. Everyone is impeccably dressed because apparently you couldn't just "hang out" back then, you had to perform "successful young adult" at all times. The guy's plaid jacket is working overtime, and the woman's dress has flowers because it's the 60s and that's the rule.

The Curator's Take: Nothing says "manly expression" like floating disembodied legs in pinstripes hovering next to a woman's face that looks like she's just realized what "manly expression" means. The ad promises these slacks are "too good not to put on," which is really the bare minimum standard for clothing, but here we are. Monsanto guaranteeing your pants is the kind of corporate synergy that seemed like a great idea until you remember this is the same company that brought you Agent Orange. "Wear-Dated" sounds like your pants come with an expiration date.
