Static heat to electricity
It's almost summer and the heat is getting to everyone. In most cases, energy is created from something that is already in motion. Like say hydel power is actually conversion of kinetic energy to power. What is static heat could be converted to electrical energy? My idea is like this. Take mercury, keep it for sometime in the heat. It'll expand. On expansion it will hit a piezoelectric material and bend that. Since a stress/strain (both are different, but here in this case either will do) will create a voltage from the piezoelectric material. A constant voltage supply is formed. Add up a lot of system like that and probably mV to V could be achieved :D
FLOSS #1: Synthetic Sand
The sand that's used for construction etc. is generally dug out from underneath rivers and nearby shores. This, when done in an unsupervised manner, will eventually disrupt the entire ecosystem and in extreme cases will lead to the death of the river (it'd dry up). This is definitely not something anyone wants. So why not synthesize sand? What if sand, like metal could be recycled? Technically speaking both sand and glass have the same composition. And if you go into the depth of technicalities, the chips that you use on your gadgets also have a Silicon base, which in essence is again sand. What if sand could be recycled from already existing products of sand? What if sand could be synthesized like that? This would save a lot of cost and could even end a lot of problems existing in such areas.
