I got really sick after my Methotrexate injection Thursday night. I was locked in my room while Hubbins was babysitting Mandana when the washer broke so instead of giving her attention he was busy doing damage control.

Evidently Mandana thought we both forgot about her bc exactly 5 minutes past her dinner time I started getting notifications on my phone from her smart buttons. She was in the living room alone repeatedly pressing the kibble button. Poor girl 🥲

Went from “oh yeah! This will be so cool!” To “oh god… what have I created?” Real quick 😅😂🩷

My most recent impulse purchase was Fluent Pet buttons for this little fur ball. 🐾

Mandana wanted something she didn’t have a button for so we went through our options and this is what she chose:

bored > play >> inside >>> treadmill >>>> scooter (which was inside next to the treadmill)

Her enthusiasm confirmed she wanted to go run with the scooter so we took it for a mile and she did so good. It’s a wooded neighborhood so there were squirrels every 10 feet and she REALLY wanted to chase them but she didn’t. She stayed with me the whole time and we had a lot of fun rolling around the neighborhood together.

Puppy dog used her “training” button after dinner so we went outside for some focus training in the dark. She loved it 🥰

We are reintroducing Mandana’s buttons in the new house. She is very fluent with her vocabulary but prefers a one-on-one conversation with hand targets rather than using buttons. I assume the buttons confuse her and slow her down and that’s why she never really got the hang of it at the apartment but I would really like her to use the buttons so she can ask for things without having to have a guessing game first.

We are trying a new configuration and working on training and modeling her most relevant buttons first. Kibble is an easy one to train and really important for us. Sometimes I forget to feed her after I’ve gotten it prepared because I soak it in hot water first. In my mind I’ve already given it to her when in reality it’s sitting on the counter somewhere and she’s too polite to bully me about it. She doesn’t currently have a way to ask for kibble so a kibble button would be super handy.

We got Mandana some audio buttons so she can communicate with me when she is in her xpen or car crate. We haven’t had them for long but she already uses them at night to alert me to medical episodes while I’m sleeping. It’s more effective (and way less creepy) than staring at me in the dark until I wake up!
