It wasn't often you visited the library, but when you did the large assortment of books you checked out made you stand out even among the regulars. As such, you grew close to the staff who'd always tease you about your hauls.
"Hey Y/n, back again I see?" Amari was the librarian that spoke to you most often, frequently checking you out just to look through the large stack you'd bring to the circulation desk.
"Yeah, I finished all the books from last time." You grew comfortable around the staff over time. Whereas you used to be embarrassed to stand there for a few minutes sliding your books through the return slot, now you just made small talk as you did your thing.
"Woah, that's a lot of books." A new voice cut off your train of thought.
You turn your head, looking over your shoulder towards a new face. You assumed it was another patron until a shiny piece of metal caught your eye. A nametag.
"Hamamoto Hoshiko..." You mumble, reading the tag.
"Oh, sorry... I didn't mean to intrude." The smallest of hues covers the albino's cheeks as he rubs the back of his neck.
"It's fine. It's a normal reaction." You give him a soft smile.
Hoshiko chuckles before his eyes dart to a cart full of books. He practically jumps out of his skin as he wheels the cart away, most likely going to put them back in their rightful places.
"That's Hoshi, our new hire." Amari speaks once again.
"Oh, he seems nice."
"He definitely is. I outta say he rivals you in the amount of books you read." She chuckles.
Amari's kind smile reminded you of those grandmas in movies. She was such a calming presence, the perfect face of a library. You had imagined her, with her chocolate brown skin and grey hairs reading 'A Visit From St. Nicholas' multiple times. A campfire crackling in the background as she'd read the poem with her soft voice.
"Ah, you should go search for your new batch dear, we close in thirty."
You smile at the woman, thanking her before quickly going off in search of new finds. Eventually, you find yourself in the horror section, thoroughly reading the summaries of the books that catch your eye,
"If you're looking for horror, I recommend this."
You turn to your right, coming face to face with a book. 'Juniper Berry'.
The book is lowered as golden eyes come into view. You see his eyes curve as his cheeks raise, the book hiding the boy's obvious smile.
"I've never seen this before, is it good?"
The book is lowered further as the albino nods, offering the book to you. He starts a general description of the book, purposefully leaving out any major details that might spoil it for you. You smile as he continues, eventually stopping with the sound of a cough.
"Oh, I'm sorry I took up all your time." His cheeks flush as he rubs the back of his neck, clearly flustered over the situation.
You chuckle, "It's alright. I've been meaning to check out fewer books than usual. I'll be able to come here more often."
Hoshiko lights up at your statement, "Great! I'll see you next time then!"
You nod, both of you going your separate directions as you check out your five books and Hoshiko finishes offloading the cart from before. You glance at the focused boy as he sorts through a few books, quickly placing the one he had been holding in between a few.
Coming more often would definitely be nice.
